News from the classroom
ELA 8 - Students are learning about the American judicial system and trial by jury through our reading and analysis of the drama Twelve Angry Men. Ask your son or daughter what they know about the jury and why this system is used in the USA! In the next week students will get the chance to participate in their own jury simulation as well as complete a character case study about one juror from the text.
Sci 7 - We are still studying the Force and Motion Unit. This week students will be designing their Gravity lab. It will be a "egg-cellent" and fun way to determine the effects of an 11 meter item in free fall. Ask your child about their lab design.
In Social Studies 7 next week, we will review the "Last of the Mohicans" and complete an introduction to British colonization.
In English 7, students have been working on understanding the nuances of sentence construction in preparation for their first creative writing unit which will commence next week.
Upcoming community events...
The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County has expanded our educational efforts to include "Community Cafes" that provide communities an opportunity to receive education on the substance abuse and then engage in a dialogue about their needs within their community to address this issue. We have hosted 2 cafes in Naples and are expanding our efforts.
This month, we will be hosting the following cafes and I have attached flyers for your use as you see fit:
Monday, November 21st - Naples Community Café from 6pm - 8pm at the Naples Library (Topic: Law Enforcement - how can we collaborate to address this issue?)
Tuesday, November 29th - Victor Community Café from 6pm - 8pm at the Victor Library (Topic: How did we get here? A brief history of the opioid epidemic in our nation and community)
