Pic Monkey

As you worked on your biographical ThinkLinks during the Thanksgiving inservice, some ran into the problem of trying to juggle too many pictures. That's where PicMonkey comes to the rescue.

Making a collage of several pictures is a great solution for those of you who have lived in muliple states. So, take a look at PicMonkey. It does so much more that just allow you to create a collage, but that's a great place to start.

PicMonkey is an app that can be added to your Google Chrome browser.

  1. Navigate to the Google Chrome Web Store.
  2. Search for PicMonkey.
  3. Tap the blue Free button.
  4. When prompted, select to add the app.

I should warn you. PicMonkey is so much fun that it might take over your life. You've been warned.

Take Notes IN a Youtube Video -- Videonot.es

This is the most interesting tool I've run across in a long time. If you've ever assigned your students to watch a Youtube video for homework, how do you know they really watched it? Or, how do you know they learned what you intended for them to learn?

Videonot.es is a tool that allows you to take notes WHILE watching a Youtube video. While that by itself is cool, Videonot.es takes it to the next level by integrating seamlessly with Google Drive. So, the notes that you take in Videonot.es are saved in Google Drive and can be shared just like any other Google Doc. How cool is that?

You can use Videonot.es on both an iPad and a Chromebook, but remember that Youtube is blocked here at school. Students would have to access this from home.

Post-it Plus

Often, my desk is a collection of Post It notes. In fact, there are currently 4 Post-it notes on my desk to remind me of things I can't afford to forget. Here's the problem with Post-it notes, they stay on my desk, and I regularly need the information that's on them when I am not at my desk. What's a girl to do?

That's where the Post It Plus app comes to my rescue. Post-it Plus allows me to take a picture of one or multiple Post-it notes and digitize them. Once I have my Post-it notes in Post-it Plus, they are with me wherever I have my phone or iPad.

The video below will show you how it works.

Mac Barnett -- Why a Good Book is a Secret Door

No Jontracation is complete without a good TED talk. This one is for the librarian/English teacher in me. Enjoy!
