Dear Waukesha East Parents/Guardians and Students,
It’s hard to believe that it is already October! I’m very excited to share some of the things we are doing at East to build a positive and safe school community and engage our students both in and outside of the classroom.
Our school’s 2018-2019 Theory of Action focuses on two goals:
1. Increase daily student attendance by utilizing a multi-level system of support which includes following established district attendance policies and procedures, employing best practices related to attendance, and regularly monitoring attendance.
2. Increase students engagement by building relational capacity and implementing high leverage engagement strategies.
We believe if we focus our time and efforts in these two areas our attendance, behavior, academics, and graduation rate will all improve.
During the months of September and October East has focused on building relational capacity and creating a sense of belonging. During our first all school assembly staff and students worked collaboratively to develop a school wide social contract. Teachers also planned and facilitated a variety of team-building activities to build community and trust in the classroom. Our average attendance for the month of September was at an all time high of 90%. We recognized students with 100% attendance during the month of September and one lucky student won lunch from his or her favorite place each week for perfect attendance. During the month of October we are recognizing students for making it to school on time each day. Students are given a raffle ticket as they enter the building by our staff greeters and we hold a weekly raffle for fun prizes.
New this school year we added Friday assemblies which has been a positive addition to our weekly schedule as we continue to build school community and engage community members in our school. We have had the opportunity to bring in a motivational speaker, Devine Carama, to share a positive message on leadership and legacy. We hosted a Manufacturing Day sponsored by The Workforce Development Center and our students learned from local experts about opportunities available in the local area and how they can better plan for a stable and good paying job for the future. Also, the Women’s Center recently came in to present on healthy relationships. We look forward to having a representative from WCTC (Waukesha County Technical College) come in to speak with our seniors about program options and the enrollment process. Teachers are not only planning great things to engage students in the classroom but also outside of school. Ms. Hughes, East teacher, organized a volunteering outing with the Waukesha Parks Department for our students which allowed them the opportunity to give back to the community.
Planning ahead, there is an early release day scheduled for October 24, 2018, East students will dismiss at 12:15 (full day students) and 1:00 (PM half day students). There is no school for students October 25, 2018 and October 26, 2018. The first quarter of the school year ends on Monday, November 5, 2017. Parents please encourage your students to check their grades and make sure all assignments and assessments are completed. Grades will close on Tuesday, November 6, 2017.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at 262-970-4354 or email@example.com.
