Monthly Art Update
From the Studio of Ms. Acton
Exciting new Art Studio and Displays!
We filled our show cases in the hallways with Artwork created by our students before they went off for summer break. Some of these projects were on display earlier this year at the Oakland Schools' Art Show. Most of the clay sculptures and pottery were student's first experience in this exciting art medium!

What's New in the Art Studio?
We added a Calming Corner complete with Themed Book Bins and Creative Building Kits. Many of our lessons this year will be connected to exploring and appreciating Cultural Diversity and the richness of the Arts within these communities.
This year we will continue to focus on Contemporary Art and Artists while using strategies that make learning visible to the student. We will be journaling our processes and goals while also reflecting on our creative experiences. Students will be introduced to a new format known as Studio Thinking. It involves Developing Art and Craft, Engaging and Persisting, Envisioning, Expressing, Observing, Reflecting and Exploring in order to better understand Art Worlds and Different Cultures. This will encourage our students to make deeper connections across the curriculum to other subjects and to real world issues that impact their lives.
Students will need to bring in an Apron or T-Shirt to protect their school clothes this year.
