CRUSADER CONNECTION

September 1, 2017

Week #2 is over and out.

We had a great week. The students are mastering class procedures and rules. They are renewing friendships and making new friends. They are developing class mission statements and expectations. They are learning about having a growth mindset.

Labor Day, NO SCHOOL OR OOS

There is NO SCHOOL OR OOS on Monday, September 4th due to the Labor Day Holiday.

Congratulations to our 2017-18 Praise Team!

After a week's worth of auditions, the new team has been selected. Congratulations to those that were selected. There were 14 spots and available and many more tried out. If your child tried out and was not selected this year, they can try out again next year.

BREAKFAST

PARENTS MAY NOT WAIT IN THE CAFETERIA DURING BREAKFAST. Parents, if you choose to walk your child in to breakfast, please say your goodbyes and drop them off. Hovering only makes it harder for the children to separate and become self sufficient. Only students, staff and approved volunteers should stay in the cafeteria. If you want to eat breakfast with your child or feed your child breakfast, you should eat together at home.

If you are interested in volunteering in the cafeteria during breakfast, please contact Mrs. Mackey and understand that you are making a commitment and are volunteering to help all of the children, not just your own.

Communication and Contact information

Please make sure that the office has your up to date contact information.

If you are sending someone to pick up your child, they need to be on your pickup list and they need to have ID. If you are sending someone who is not on the list, please call in advance. We have a problem nearly every day with someone coming to pick up a child who either is not on the list or does not have ID.

Chapel Offering

Each week our children attend a chapel service. We take an offering at each chapel. ALL of our offering are used to help others in our community, in our country and globally. We have supported a local children's group home, a home severely handicapped children, an orphanage in Haiti, relief efforts in many states after natural disasters, food pantries, etc. The list goes on. We think it is important that our children learn to give back. Please allow your student to bring a small offering on their chapel day (PK-2 is Wednesday; 3rd-8th is Thursday). We are now collecting our offerings to help with hurricane relief in Texas. Please be generous.

OOS (After-School Childcare)

If your child is staying after school every day, you must complete an OOS package so that your child can be enrolled in the Children's Trust grant supported program. Until you complete this form and turn it in, you will be charged the higher weekly rate. These are available in our office.

If your child will be participating in any after-school activity (athletics, music, tutoring, student government, etc.) an OOS form must also be completed. You will not be charged for aftercare as long as you pick your child up at the conclusion of the activity.

Fun in the Parking Lot

You may not like our dismissal line in the afternoon, but I can promise you that it is much better than many others. The line for the school by my house is a half mile long and parents line up up to an hour ahead of time. You can help us make it better by doing the following:

  1. Come at the right time. If your child is dismissed at 3, do not come at 2:45
  2. If you have kids that are dismissed at different times, come closer to the later time.
  3. Pull your car all the way up and as close to the curb as you can. Do not park and wait. Make another circle if you have to.
  4. MAKE A RIGHT TURN WHEN LEAVING THE PARKING LOT!!! Right turn only is very clearly marked. If traffic is backed up on NE 7th Ave and you try to make a left, you are backing up traffic in our parking lot and inconveniencing everyone.
  5. We can't see through dark tinted windows. Roll them down so we can see who you are and who you are picking up.
  6. Please do not try to engage teachers in a conference during dismissal. Their attention needs to be on all of the children during this time.
  7. Smile and be patient.

Holy Cross Instrumental Band Program

I'ts not too late! If you are interested your child being enrolled in our school band program, please return the enrollment form that was sent home or pick up another one in the office. Research has proven that learning an instrument is not only a fun thing to do and can be a lifelong skill, but it also improves the way the brain functions. Please give this program consideration. We are very excited about it!

Uniform Issues

If you still are owed materials from Sunshine-Wear Uniform, please notify the school office so that I can address it with them. We were promised that all orders would be completed by Labor Day, other than sweatshirts and sweat pants.

Speech and Language Screenings

Pediatric Therapy Centers will begin speech and language screenings on Tuesday, September 5th. A form was sent home to students in PK through 5th grade. Your child will be screened if you return the form. If the screening identifies a potential problem, you will receive a letter and a request for a follow up. If you do not want your child to be screened, do not return the form. If a teacher suggests that your child have the screening, please do so.
