News from this week
Dear Parents,
The first 9 weeks of school is officially over! Student Progress Reports are coming home today. Please sign the white copy and send it back in on Monday. The yellow copy is yours to keep. Remember, grades are updated on a regular basis and can always be accessed through the parent portal and through your child's e-class log in. If your child is struggling in a particular area, you received an Academic Contract. Please sign the white copy and send it in as soon as possible. The yellow copy is yours to keep.
All the students in my reading class are now participating in a book club. Each group has a book to read, along with a graphic organizer to complete each week. Groups will meet every Friday and must be completely prepared by completing the reading and the organizer in order to participate. If a student is not prepared one week, they will get a warning. If they are not prepared a second time, they will no longer be in the book club and will have independent work to do instead. I encourage you to talk to your child about the book and have them tell you what is going on in the reading. Please make sure they are doing the work because we will have a fun technology project to do at the end for all of those who have completed it. This is also their reading homework so it can count towards their Reading log each week.
ITBS testing starts the week after next. Although 4th grade is NOT testing, we ask that you do not join your child for lunch due to schedule changes and testing within the building. Please see important dates below.
We will start completing minute multiplication quizzes in class on Monday. These are not put into the grade book. They are for practice to help motivate the students to master their multiplication facts. At the end of the semester, students who master their facts will enjoy an ice cream sundae.
Please remind your child to bring his/her reading log every Monday (Tuesday on weeks we do not have school on Monday). This is a school wide reading initiative, and students are rewarded for their continuous hard work.
I am in my classroom on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 for Morning Math. If your child needs extra help or practice please feel free to drop him/her off at the front door or park and walk your child in.
We will have a class Spelling Bee soon. I will get the date out to you as soon as I have it. I sent home a list of words last week that the students can use to help them prepare. These are just some grade level words that may/may not be used.
We are selling "Monsters" to help raise money for United Way for 50 cents per monster. We will hang them outside our classroom. The class with the highest number wins a Monster party with Mr. Fields.
Have a great weekend!
Sabine Stoffle

Message from Dr. Barlow
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
The Gwinnett County Public School System is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. We recognize, however, that there is always room for growth and improvement. An excellent way for us to determine how to improve is by asking you. Your response is especially important because you can help us determine where improvements are needed. Please take a few minutes to complete the RBES Parent Survey located on the Parent Portal from September 25, 2017 through November 3, 2017. If you need a paper copy of the survey in English or Spanish, please notify your child's teacher. Thank you for taking the time to help us with this important survey. Your participation now will help us to provide even better educational experiences in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barlow
Principal
