NSHS Counselor Connection

Back to school 2018-2019 Edition!

As we enter the 2018-2019 Academic year, please be aware of the following changes to the structure and organization of the School Counseling (Guidance) office. Mrs. Comtois is moving on to North Smithfield Elementary School to be the first School Counselor that North Smithfield has had at the elementary level. We know she will excel in her new role.

In order to best serve students at North Smithfield High School, we have decided to split the caseloads by grade instead of by alphabet.

The counselor caseloads for 2018-2019 at North Smithfield High School are listed below:

Mrs. Gibbons, grades 10 & 12, Classes of 2019 and 2021.

Mr. Pepin, grades 9 & 11, Classes of 2020 and 2022.

Each counselor will rotate with their grade level and stay with them for all four years.

The long term goal is to provide the students of the school district with an outstanding K-12 School Counseling Curriculum based on standards from the American School Counselor Association, the National Association of College Admissions Counseling, that also aligns with 21st Century Learning Expectations, and meets all educational mandates from the State of Rhode Island.

Google Classroom Accounts for School Counseling

The NSHS School Counselors have created Google Classroom Accounts for each grade level. Please encourage your child to join and to share with you. We post information on summer programs, scholarships, college visits, and more on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis.

Scheduling requests

Attention High School Students and Parents,

Student schedules for the 2018-2019 school year will be available on the IC portal on Monday, August 27, 2019 after the freshman orientation. Students may request a schedule change by filling out the Google Form on Google Classroom for any schedule changes. The add/drop period will close on September 6th.

Good reasons to request a change include:

3. Already have a credit for class on my schedule

4. Need to discuss a conflict with my school counselor.

Bad reasons to request a change:

1. Don't like the teacher.

2. No friends in that period.

3. Want to duplicate my friends schedule.
