Mission
Staff Spotlight - Melissa Lipinski
Student Spotlight - Mason Park
Mason Park is an outstanding 4th grader who has embraced homeschooling with excitement and enthusiasm! Mason started homeschooling in third grade when his parents realized the necessity to be able to offer an education that targeted his high intellect and creativity. The family uses the Moving Beyond the Page curriculum to address Mason’s desire for really digging deeply into the topics that he is learning. He loves to play hockey, and has been playing since he was five. He has been on a competitive team for two years. It is important to Mason to be a kind person in everything he does, and he wants to be more than just a good hockey player; he wants to be a nice one. Mason’s new special interest is the Rubik’s Cube, and he has (at age 9) mastered nine different shapes!
Congratulations to our Battle of the Books Teams!
The 3rd and 4th grades sent two teams. One of them placed 10th, and one of them tied with Ravenwood Elementary for 1st place! Wowza! They will battle off again with the Ravenwood team to determine which will advance to the state level competition. The 5th and 6th grades sent two teams who placed high in ranking in the 9th and 11th places. What an amazing accomplishment for our students! We are so proud of our students for their amazing dedication and hard work.
Participating in the Battle of the Books is a major time commitment. These students read many different genres and met often to practice their knowledge of the texts and to work collaboratively. This was a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and to read high quality texts. Thank you to the teachers and parents who worked with these students to help them develop the skills to be so successful!
Morgan Krakow, of the Anchorage Daily News, wrote a wonderful tribute to the students who participated in the battle. See below for a link to the original news article published by the ADN on February 2nd.
