What's happening in the classroom...
Reading: In reading we are starting an immigration unit, focusing on people who came to North Carolina when it was being settled. This will have a focus on identifying key details in a text, synthesizing important information, and determining the main idea.
Math: We have finished our place value unit and are working on learning new multiplication strategies for 2 and 3-digit numbers! Students should now be able to show you several ways to solve a problem like 23 x 56. Encourage them to continue practicing multiplication facts.
Science/Social Studies: In science we are working on studying rocks and minerals. We have focused on igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, as well as how they are formed and changed in the rock cycle.
Writing: We are beginning to write informational pieces of text. This week, we are following our studies of rocks and minerals and writing about identifying an unknown mineral.
