About AZ Merit

The AzMERIT assessment measures Arizona’s students’ performance annually for students in third grade and above. AzMERIT is like an annual checkup – an important opportunity to find out how students are doing. Just as doctors check height and weight, teachers and parents use the test to check how students are performing in reading, writing and math. It also provides information about whether or not your child is prepared for the next grade and eventually for college and career.

We know that many of our students get nervous before their tests. Therefore, at school we have been practicing to help our students feel confident before taking the assessment. Our students will also be provided with snacks and mints to help them during testing. All of our classes that will be taking AzMERIT have been partnered with buddy classes who will help to encourage them on their testing days. We also ask for your support at home as our students begin testing. Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Make sure your child gets a good nights rest.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Tell them you believe in them. They have worked so hard this year and the test is about showing what they have learned.
  • Get them to school on time and with a positive attitude.
  • Do not schedule any appointments during their testing times.
