Gladstone School Newsletter - Week 4 Term 4, 2021. 12/11/21
Te Karere a te Tumuaki (Principal's Message)
Kia ora tātou katoa (Hi/greetings/hello everybody).
Thanks to everyone for helping us maintain our COVID requirements. Over the next few weeks and months we are going to need to remain vigilant - particularly once the Auckland borders open. Planning from here on in, is very much around keeping our kids safe. Staff and those working with students are mostly all double vaccinated, with just a couple waiting on 2nd doses.
Parents volunteering or working onsite with students need to be fully vaccinated - this includes EOTC trips and camps. Parents coming to interviews and other events do not need to show proof of vaccine, however all parents do still need to wear masks and socially distance. Staff that work onsite only need to wear masks if they wish to.
We are trying to make the newsletters less wordy, so information will be broken up into sections and dispursed amongst images. Newsletter content is priority ordered - must know information is at the top, community advertising near the end (not saying the community advertising isn't important, hopefully you know what I mean).
Noho ora mai (stay well, look after yourself),
Belinda Bunny
Year 3 & Year 6 Transition Meetings
Thanks very much to those who were able to come along to our transition meetings last Wednesday evening. It was a worthwhile time for all involved. For those unable to make the meetings, copies of the slide show presentations have been shared on Seesaw. Please contact team leaders for next year if you have any questions - Ōnoke (graham@gladstone1.school.nz); Ruamahanga (chelsea@gladstone1.school.nz).

Kapa Haka Filming - Monday 15th November
In lieu of the Kapa Haka festival, we are getting our performance filmed and put online for all of you. The filming will take place this Monday afternoon.
The Y1-3 students and some year 4's will be filmed first. Can they please be wearing their Gladstone School t-shirts on Monday.
Y4-8 students will be filmed after them. Boys need to be wearing black shorts and their Gladstone t-shirts. Girls please bring the following - bike shorts to go under your dress, a hair brush and small hair-tie. All students can wear a taonga (pounamu or bone) that represents themselves or their whānau, but no other jewellery thanks.
Thanks for your help in making sure your child/ren come equipped on the day with what they need. Whaea Micaela.
Gladstone School Athletics
As with most events this year, all levels of athletic competition have been cancelled. We are however running our own Gladstone School Athletics on Tuesday. Parents and caregivers are not permitted to attend this event. We will be filming each Year group's events (Year 3-8) and posting them online for you to watch. Links will be sent out via the app and our school Facebook Page. Results for school events don't count for any additional events this year - as there aren't any.
We are making the day a little more fun by adding in a whānau group element - students are being asked to come dressed in their whānau group colours.
Te Whiti - yellow; Maungaraki - blue; Longbush - green; Te Wharau - red.
Again, we know that many of you will be disappointed that you are not permitted to come and watch. Unfortunately as soon as we have parents coming onsite, we need to operate under alert level gathering rules. The MoE is quite clear about this.
Teacher Aide Position - Fixed Term 2022
We require an enthusiastic, experienced part time Teacher Aide to join our fantastic rural school team 9:00 - 12:30 Monday - Friday. The role will be to support one of our students with their learning.
The suitable applicant must have proven ability in working with children coping with trauma. They must also have sound communication and collaboration skills.
Application details are available by contacting the Principal, Belinda Bunny - principal@gladstone1.school.nz, 06 372 7601 or 0276 140 777. We are hoping for this position to commence at the start of 2022.
End of Year Information
There will be a lot of important information coming out next week - staffing; final school assembly; Year 8 leavers dinner & prize giving assembly details. We are working hard behind the scenes and liaising with other South Wairarapa Schools to ensure that we get things right. We do understand that for our Year 8's and their families, these occasions are important. We will be coming up with the best solution possible that still fits within COVID restrictions.
Bus Guidance from the MoE
At the start of 2022, Tranzit will no longer be our bus provider. Go Bus will be operating all bus runs across the Wairarapa. We are in talks with GoBus to confirm arrangements for the start of 2022 and will communicate this with you when it is finalised.
