Eagles are Opportunity Ready

RCPS Mission: To invest in our community's future by preparing our students with Opportunity Ready skills as defined in the RCPS Profile of a Graduate.

RCPS Vision: Preparing every student, in every school, and in every classroom to be Opportunity Ready.

Our HVMS students demonstrate opportunity ready skills on a daily basis both in the classroom and in the community. We would love to start sharing out more of what our students are doing that demonstrate the following skills:

  • Citizenship
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Career Plan
  • Creativity
  • Competence
  • Centeredness
  • Critical Thinking

If you have photos of your students demonstrating the above opportunity ready skills, please email them to the Chris Benson (cbenson@rcps.us) to be included in a future newsletter.

Physical Science

Can you build a pyramid structure using 21 Solo cups, 1 rubber band, and 4 pieces of string all without ever touching the cups? HVMS students can!

Mrs. O'Brien's students demonstrated creative thinking and collaboration to accomplish this goal.

Photography Class

Mr. Van Gerven's photography class is learning about basic composition rules with photos. Check out how some of his students were able to apply those concepts!

Mrs. Boone's Math Class

How many exponent problems can you solve before you get zapped?

Mrs. Boone's Math Class practiced solving exponent problems with a game of Zap! These critical thinkers demonstrated their ability to do fast math while having fun!

Message from the HVMS PTSO President

Hello, HVMS families! I hope everyone is having a great year thus far. I wanted to share some information about the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) with the hope that you will join us to make this a great school year.

Our purpose is to strengthen, enhance, and encourage the educational and social environments of HVMS. We have identified 3 major initiatives for 2022-2023:

  • Monthly appreciation events for teachers and staff
  • Net for the football/soccer field
  • School dances

To fund our plans without a school fundraiser, we need your help. You can sponsor us by participating in the following events:

  • Sign-up genius for teacher appreciation events
  • Kroger Community Rewards**
  • Restaurant Night
  • Paint Night
  • Dances
  • Direct donations (which are tax deductible)
  • Amazon Smiles**

**sign up instructions are on our Facebook page.

We are open to additional fundraising ideas and need members to staff our fundraising committee.

To join the PTSO and/or volunteer for the committee, please click here.

Please like and follow our Facebook Page (Hidden Valley Middle School PTSO) to stay informed about our activities.

We look forward to having a great year!

Technology Issues

Students should restart their computers daily. Restarting laptops daily helps ensure they remain up-to-date with the latest software. If a student is having any issue that is not resolved by restarting, please have your student let his or her teacher know, and they will contact our Computer Depot for support.

SCHOOL SAFETY

School Safety Starts with YOU!

If you see or hear anything that is concerning, tell a teacher, an administrator, or a police officer! Students may also use SpeakUp to report concerns anonymously

Traffic Pattern

Morning Drop-Offs: Please make sure you are dropping your students off in the car rider line and having them enter through Door 2 in the mornings. Students may exit the vehicle as soon as the car is along the sidewalk (they do not need to wait for an adult to open the door for them).

Afternoon Pick-Ups: All parents/guardians need to park and wait for students to come to their vehicles in the afternoon. Please be very careful when leaving, and please watch for pedestrians and buses! Students may not be picked up from the car rider line in the afternoons.

ATHLETICS

General Information

6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are allowed to compete on the middle school athletic teams. All participating students must have a current VHSL sports physical dated on or after May 1, 2022. No student will be permitted to participate in tryouts or practice without a completed VHSL physical form on file. Additionally, all students must have health insurance if they want to participate.

Athletic ticket prices: adult tickets will be $5, and student tickets are $2. These funds are used to help offset the cost for officials, transportation to away games, and team equipment

6th Grade Cheer Tryouts

As a result of the recent change in policy allowing 6th graders to participate in middle school athletic programs, Hidden Valley Middle School is holding tryouts for 6th grade cheerleaders on September 6th, 7th, and 8th from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. This tryout is limited to only 6th grade athletes currently enrolled at HVMS.

Athletes must have a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2022 on file with the HVMS Athletic Director to participate in tryouts.
