Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset
A growth mindset means that you believe your intelligence and talents can be developed over time. A fixed mindset means that you believe intelligence is fixed—so if you're not good at something, you might believe you'll never be good at it.
Students have learned a LOT in this first trimester about Brain Science/Neuro Education and how our brain works for learning and emotional regulation. The messages we send ourselves about our capabilities to grow in learning and emotional wellness is imperative every day
There is scientific evidence that “mindset” can override “skill set” and keep us from growing and succeeding. What this means is that the messages we receive (from others, and most importantly ourselves) can SLOW or STOP our growth, learning and development of skills. Basically, if we BELIEVE we can’t, then we probably won’t. If we send ourselves positive Growth Mindset messages, we are more likely to grow, learn and succeed. These types of messages include:
“I will train my brain and build neuro pathways.”
“Mistakes help me to learn.”
“I’ll use a different strategy.”
“I can always improve.”
“This make take some extra time and Cognitive Rehearsal/Practice”
“I can do it!”
“I’ve got this!”

Healthy and Safe practices at Midland
Just a reminder of the things that we'd like you to consider before sending your child to school each day:
- A temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or above?
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
These are some safety precautions we will be practicing at Midland:
- Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus, in the halls, in class, and at recess.
- Students will wash hands and use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
- Students will sit 3 feet apart in the classroom, and 6 feet apart during breakfast & lunch.
If your child has been exposed to COVID, or if they are showing symptoms of illness, you may not send them to school until they have been quarantined and symptom free for 10 days. Teachers will provide work for students during this time. We are counting on everyone to keep Midland safe for all students and staff. Thank you!
