ARJH Parent News November 15, 2020
Reading Junior High Longhorns
Message from your Principal
We are heading into our final week before Thanksgiving Holidays and we feel so thankful for our kids, staff, parents and community members.
Last week, we had two teams win football district championships, students placing first as social studies quiz bowl winners, we dominated the cross country meet with a sweep of 1st place for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls teams, and had a successful virtual Veteran's day presentation and a successful Parent Engagement Night webinar.
Another great event that happened last week- my sweet baby girl granddaughter was born late Thursday night and came into this world happy, healthy and immensely loved.
We are continuing to follow protocols for wearing our masks, hand sanitizing and staying as socially distanced as possible and we will continue to talk about this every morning- our goal is to do everything in our power to keep each other safe and healthy. We appreciate all of the support and continued positive connections as we work together on this collective goal.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!
Dr. Sanzo

We are asking parents for donations, instead of physical pies, this year. Sponsor a teacher, or two, so that they can take a Thanksgiving pie home for the holidays!

2021-2022 GRHS Belles Drill Team
21-22 Belle Tryouts
Attention RJH 8th Graders! Do you love to dance? Represent your school and community? Travel?
Then come get information on becoming a part of the 2021-2022 Belles JV Drill Team. The Lariettes and Belles are the HEART of GR! We not only represent our school and community on a local and statewide level, but we support many programs on campus as well. We work hard, we play hard, and our high energy performances show our heart and dedication! If you are interested in being a part of this legacy and representing GR in a positive and uplifting manner, please join us for our mandatory parent and candidate tryout meeting at 7:30pm on Thursday November 19 via Zoom. The zoom link is https://lcisd.zoom.us/j/9080371982 and you must have your first and last name present to be admitted into the Zoom room. The meeting will be no longer than an hour and will answer many of your questions! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the director, TaShane O’Haver, at tashane.ohaver@lcisd.org. We look forward to seeing you there! Click here for a short video about our program!
Check out our Lariette Sweetheart and Beau Dance!
A strong tradition since GR opened is our Lariette Sweetheart and Beau Dance, formerly the Lariette Father/Daughter Dance. We worked hard to make sure Covid did not derail our plans. It may look different, but we found a way to honor this tradition while remaining socially distant! This performance is an important part of our program as the girls get an opportunity to work strongly with their dads or the male role models who have a big impact on their life. If you missed it at the game, or you just want to be entertained again, take a moment to view our 2020 Sweetheart and Beau dance! Click here to view this outstanding performance!

Nurse's Notes - A Message From Mrs. Turner
Due to COVID concerns, I am asking that you do not bring Tylenol, ibuprofen, decongestants, etc. to school for your child. These types of medications can mask the symptoms of illness. I have attached a "Can My Child Go To School" flow chart with guidelines for when you can send your student to school and when they can return to school if they have been ill. In alignment with LCISD Guidelines, any students with symptoms of illness will be sent home whether they have a fever or not. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this process, as we work together to ensure that our students and staff remain healthy.

Reminders About Campus Visitors and Drop-Offs
Smart Tags Parent Portal
How does the SMART Tag work?
The SMART Tag uses an RFID chip inside the card. When a student gets on or off a bus, they present their card to the RFID reader installed on all Lamar CISD school buses. The RFID technology only requires that the student place the card near the reader, it does not have to be inserted into the reader. The SMART Tag tablet confirms if the student is on the right bus, and when the student attempts to get off at a stop, they scan their card ensuring it’s the right stop.
Information gathered by the driver tablets is shared in real-time using secured cloud technology. The barcode printed on the card is used only by applications on campus.
What features does SMART Tag have for parents?
Once the District has piloted the system with students, parents will have access to the SMART Tag Parent Portal to help keep them informed when their children ride the bus. Parents can also turn on SMART Alerts to receive a text message when the bus will arrive at their child’s stop in the morning and afternoon.
Additionally, parents can view the riding history of their child and can opt in to see a live map of their student’s bus when it’s on the way to pick them up and while they’re on the bus.
For more information on the SMART Tag system, click here.
