Charger Check-In
Thursday, March 12, 2020
A Note from Ms. Owens
Thank you again for all your cooperation and support in Wednesday's unexpected early dismissal for our students. All SCA families should have received both a phone call and an email announcing yesterday's early dismissal. If you did not receive the phone call, please contact me via the Google Form below so we can update your phone number(s) in our data base. (If you're getting the Check-Ins, you should have gotten the email as they are sent through the same platform.)
I'm sure you are curious to hear an update about how SCA is responding to the evolving COVID-19 situation. We continue to focus on cleaning the school well with special emphasis on common areas. Students will be asked to use the hand sanitizer dispensers as they enter Kane Hall for lunch. Please note the COVID-19 Update below as there are some resources you can review if your child is asking questions.
Here's what's coming up this week:
- Tomorrow - All-School Liturgy; Living Stations at 1:30PM and 6:30PM
- Saturday - FSA St. Patrick's Party
- Wednesday - Donuts with Dads (PK4); Confirmation Practice at 7PM
- Thursday - Stations of the Cross
- Friday - All School Liturgy; SCA Fish Fry
- Sunday - Confirmation at 1PM
Thank you for all you do to support the St. Catherine community!
Peace,
Kristine Owens
COVID-19 Update
We continue to monitor closely the developments surrounding COVID-19 via the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and the Archdiocese of Chicago.
As the news carries more and more stories about COVID-19, I expect some of your children are asking questions about this virus and how it might affect them or those they love. I've included two possible resources that you may want to explore with your child. As always, please preview the sources to be sure you are comfortable with the information presented.
- Please know that we are cleaning common areas throughout the school day - handrails, doorknobs, light switches, handles, etc. Teachers are doing the same with student desks and other items in their classrooms.
- In the evenings, our cleaning crew is spending additional time and focus on disinfecting all commonly touched surfaces.
- All students will be asked to use hand-sanitizer from the dispensers as they enter Kane Hall for lunch.
- If your child is sick, it is imperative that you keep them home from school and at a distance from other family members.
- Our teachers would be very appreciative of any additional disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer or facial tissue that you are able to send to school with your child.
- Additionally, if your family is planning on international travel over the coming weeks, especially during Easter Break, please reach out to me directly.

Heart of the School Nominations
It is that time of year when we celebrate and honor the dedicated staff and faculty of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago - particularly those who serve the St. Catherine of Alexandria community.
Nominations can be submitted by any person who is a stakeholder or constituent of the school community - teacher, staff member, administrator, student, parent, volunteer, etc.
Any current teacher, administrator or staff member who works in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago can be nominated for a Heart of the School Award. Employees can be full- or part-time employees and must work directly for the Catholic school (not a third-party organization).
Nominations must be submitted electronically, and they will be accepted through March 30, 2020. The button below will take you to the web page for nominations.
First Grade Family Mass
Our First Grade Family Mass will be on March 29 th at the 9:00am Mass. It is my hope that all first grade students and their parents will attend this special Mass. This will be a “teaching” Mass. Instead of the usual homily, one priest will be briefly explaining parts of the Mass, as the other priest says the Mass.
Some of our students will have the opportunity to be Readers or Gift Bearers. After Mass, there will be refreshments in Kane Hall. After Hospitality, there will be a FAMILY ACTIVITY. During the Activity, parents will help their child create a piece that may be brought out every year as a sign of Easter. You don’t have to be artistic to do this. It’s a great way to spend a little time with your child while experiencing the real meaning of Easter.
Of course, we will need help with our Hospitality. All the jobs are simple and only take about 20 minutes of your time. Please use the sign-up link below to volunteer yourself for one of the Hospitality tasks or to sign up your child if they are interested. Readers must be able to read independently and comfortably.
The readers will practice with the microphone before Mass at 8:30am.

March Special
Tuesday Hot Lunch Ordering
The link for placing hot lunch orders is below. Please remember that ordering closes at noon the day before delivery.
There will, of course, be days when parents have ordered a hot lunch and their child is absent. On those days, parents (or another designated person) are welcome to pick up the child's lunch. In order for this to happen, parents must notify the school of the hot lunch pick-up prior to 11 AM and then the actual lunch must be picked up before 12:30 PM. We cannot keep lunches beyond that or send them home with students due to food safety regulations.
