Lower Mills Innovative Teacher Spotlight
Ms. Mary Kate Petterson joined the Lower Mills team last year as a First Grade teacher. Ms. Petterson has been a proud Catholic School student through elementary, high school and college. Did you know that Ms. Petterson was a dancer all through high school? Maybe she can teach us a few moves! Ms. Petterson graduated from Assumption College in May of 2016, where she majored in Elementary Education and History. Ms. Petterson was accepted into the highly selective and prestigious Boston College Urban Catholic Teacher Corps (UCTC), Cohort 20. As a member of UCTC she is working towards her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Members of the UCTC program live in an intentional community, rooted in our faith while being a full time student at Boston College as well as teaching full time. UCTC is grounded in four core values: Teaching as a Ministry, Simple Living, Community and Spirituality all which are woven through their academically rigorous course work and experience at our school. Ms. Petterson currently lives in the Saint Matthew's convent with Ms. Egan and 15 other house members. Ms. Petterson is known at school for her meticulous classroom, organized classroom library, perfectly laminated centers and most importantly her gentle spirit and love for our students! Ms. Petterson loves spending time with her family and her dog as well as spending as much time on the Cape as possible during the summer months. Ms. Petterson loves grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches and drinks at least two cups of iced coffee per day! P.S. Watch out around Christmas time...Ms. Petterson LOVES Christmas! It is her favorite day of the year!
