PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 2:00-9:00 PM and on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM.
Parents/guardians may schedule their own individual teacher conferences using a web-based appointment system called MEET THE TEACHER. Meet the Teacher allows parents the flexibility to schedule conferences for all of their children at the same time. If you need assistance with scheduling your child’s conferences, please contact the school office. There are scheduling kiosks available at each school for you to use as well. You are a vital partner in the education of your child. Parent/teacher conferences play an integral role in providing feedback regarding your child’s progress as well as formulating individual plans for success. We look forward to seeing you at conferences in February.

YOUNG AUTHORS BOOKS DUE MONDAY
The Young Author program gives students the opportunity to write their own book. Books are then judged at the building and district levels. District level winners are invited to participate in the state’s Young Authors’ Conference in Bloomington/Normal. This year the district will also be hosting a “Young Authors’ Showcase Night” where district level winners will have the option of doing a reading of their book for the community. Listed below are some guidelines for Young Authors books. We hope your child will be interested in participating this year! Books are due Monday, February 10th.

SECOND GRADE CONCERT
Dear Parents,
This note is to remind you that our second graders will be giving a concert soon! This concert of traditional American folk songs will be Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 PM in the Mary Endres Gym. Because a concert is a formal event, students should wear their best clothes. The students should arrive on the night of the concert and report to their classrooms at 6:15 PM. Each child has an important part in the concert. If your child will not be able to attend, please let his or her classroom teacher know. We look forward to seeing you at the concert! Please feel free to call with any questions.
Sincerely,

READING CONNECTION
Oops! Your youngster just goofed while reading to you. What should you do? Keep these tips in mind:
- Wait to see if she catches her own mistake. If she doesn't notice her error by the end of the sentence or paragraph, ask, " Did that part make sense?" or "What other word would make sense there?" She'll learn to self correct - an important step toward becoming an independent reader.
- Resist the urge to correct every mistake your child makes. That can interrupt the flow of the story. For example, if her error doesn't really affect the meaning of the sentence (say, she reads house instead of home), consider letting her keep going.
