WBMS Friday Notes
December 10-14
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
There are many reasons WBMS is a premier middle school, and one cause is our emphasis on fine arts. Research strongly supports correlations between participating in the arts and academic achievement and social and emotional growth. December is filled with many fine arts events at WBMS, so it seems appropriate to highlight them this month. This week our 7th grade students traveled to view The Alliance Theatre’s performance of A Christmas Carol, and our students came back raving about the experience. After reading the text in class, they were engaged to see the famous tale come alive on stage. Many told me they were now eager to watch film versions to make further comparisons. While we do not have a theatre class during the school day, we do host after school groups; and last week our students performed two one act comedies that were truly entertaining. And those students involved in the musical have been hard at work for months preparing for the show in early February. In addition, our visual arts classroom is always filled with color and creativity, and some of our 8th graders are earning high school Introduction to Art credit this semester. Moreover, a whopping 56.48% of our students are involved in music education - either band, orchestra, or chorus. Our music students have performed multiple concerts this month with groups from our feeder elementary schools, other middles schools, and Alpharetta High School. The level of mastery our musical groups illustrate is simply unreal. I am truly in awe of the talent we have in this building! These programs bring joy to our school community, and I am thankful for your support.
Enjoy the weekend.

FBLA
Today we held our December general meeting, with our Leadership Team organizing and facilitating the event! Our first call to action was to recognize the 27 students who took part in our FBLA Regional Leadership Conference online testing events. Recognition also was given to the members who supported our gift card community service drive, where we collected $190 in cards to Kroger, Publix, Walmart and Target. And our main activity today was a lively business trivia game, where teams of students collaborated to share the correct answers to twenty questions written by the leadership team. Everyone had a great time! Our Webb Bridge MS FBLA wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday!
