Message from the Principal
🦖Hello Raptor Families!
Welcome to December! The winter weather has started to arrive! Warmer clothing is necessary, and our Lost and Found is overflowing! If you are missing something, I bet we have it!
Progress Reports have gone home and most parent/teacher interviews are complete. If you have not yet had time to speak with your child's teacher, it is not too late to book a time. As always, we encourage you to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher if you have any concerns. Email addresses can be found below.
As we continue to move further into Term 1, supporting our students to become avid readers and confident mathematicians is our priority! If you would like resources to support this development at home, our teachers are happy to point you in the right direction. We are learning more about the science of reading as a school, and we have some great interactive activities that you could try at home. We also have a Math coach who has some great ideas!
Rugby and 3-ball were a success - we encourage all junior students to try out for our teams!
Dental Screening will be December 5-6 for JK/SK and Grades 2 and 4.
Reminder: our yard is not open to students prior to 9:00 a.m., so please be sure that they are not arriving before this time.
☹️Parking is still a safety concern! Please, please, please do not move pylons so that you can park, and do not park in front of pylons. This is for the safety of our students. The parking lot is closed to parents from 2:45-3:45. Also, please do not park on the wrong side of the street and let your child exit the vehicle into traffic. Our side streets allow parking and walking is great exercise. Please help us keep our students safe! I have asked our bylaw officers to visit more frequently in the hopes of deterring unsafe habits.
We have organized another Festive Lunch to happen on Wednesday, December 20. We will have two sittings, as we have in the past, and we are looking for volunteers! Spaghetti House will be offering a variety of pasta and sauces with a dinner roll and juice or milk! If you are interested in volunteering, please submit your name at the following link: https://forms.gle/gniZ5n8cFFSJFYbE8
On Friday, December 22, there will be a whole school pizza day as well. Each student will receive one slice of cheese pizza.
Research tells us that attendance matters! Please support us in having students arrive on time, and regularly when they are well, so that they can get the most out of their learning. Even being 10 minutes late everyday can add up to a lot of missed learning. Missing one day a week adds up quickly to weeks or even months of school missed. Student who attend on time and regularly, are more likely to succeed and develop a sense of belonging.
At the same time, illness spreads! Sending sick children to school causes more children and our staff to become ill. When staff are away, it impacts everyone. Please check the guidelines below for when to send your child to school or keep them home.
There is information below about attendance, hot lunches, Bell schedules, etc.; please have a look!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the office. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and a wonderful beginning to 2024!
Regards,
Barb Bloom, Principal

Bell Schedules
We continue to follow the same bell schedule at RFD. Please do NOT send your child/ren to school prior to 9:00 unless they are in Compass Care.
We continue to ask that families remain outside of the school yard both before school and after school. We invite you to say farewell and hello to your students at the gate or the curb. This helps us to keep track of who belongs on our yard and who doesn't.
Our bell schedule is as follows:
9:00-9:15 Supervised yard time
9:15 Entry Bell
9:20 Announcements
10:55 Recess
