Dear Parents,
Don't forget that students have a half-day Thursday and Friday this week.
English
On Monday, we will look at rhetorical devices used in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speeches.
The mentor sentence quiz, scheduled for Friday, will also be on Monday. We will have many in-class activities related to learning root words this week. We are also practicing some non-fiction reading skills and reading various articles about animals.
In a couple of weeks, the students will have to come up with a question, such as "Do elephants belong in zoos?" or "Should we use mice for lab testing?" and answer it using argument writing techniques.
Math
This past week was shortened due to last Friday’s snow/ice day. Students were able to finish chapter 4 and take the chapter 4 test. Some students will be finishing this up on Monday. There are a couple of homework assignments due on Monday. They are: Page 259(2-8)/Page 260(1-6) and the chapter review pages261-266(all).
Looking ahead, this week students will be starting Chapter 5: Percents. This week, they will learn how to model percents. They will also practice writing percents as fractions and decimals. They will also learn how to convert fractions and decimals to percents.
