Daniel Williams, Ayat Soluiman and Amy Kraselsky
This week’s spotlight is on the dynamic trio, Daniel Williams, Ayat Soluiman and Amy Kraselsky! This team has worked so hard to help their students transition to new teachers, new routines and a whole new environment, while still teaching at a very high level. Sometimes the hardest part of teaching is working with other adults and this team makes it look easy! We are so happy to have all of you at NPE! Great Job!

Tech Tips from the Vanguard Team
Have you ever wanted to QUICKLY share a link with students? Check out Yellkey.
All you do is copy and paste the URL into Yellkey and it will generate a user-friendly link for the students. The link uses common words. For example: www.yellkey.com/slice or www.yellkey.com/officer. Students can also generate their own link to share with others.
You can watch a 2-minute tutorial at http://viewpure.com/ZZ3NV484iEk?start=0&end=0
More free Ippolitos!?
We have put lots of left overs in the collab room fridge, and an additional salad in the front office fridge for lunch tomorrow! We will try to set it out, but if you go and do not see it please check the fridge. Make yourself a plate, pop it in the microwave, and enjoy!
Don’t forget to send the PTA a thank you note for the gift cards, lunch, and breakfast tomorrow!
Wanna Be On SGC??
It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council (SGC) has 2 parent/guardian positions and 1 teacher position open for election. Parents or guardians of students who will be attending our school during both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years are eligible to run for the parent/guardian SGC positions.
Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following powers:
* Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan
* Manage the Request for Flexibility process
* Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations
* Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy
* Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance
If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Parent/Guardian Candidate Declaration Form. Forms can be found on our school website starting on February 4th, or you can get a copy of the form from our front office and follow the mailing instructions on the back.
We are very excited about the work and value-add of our SGC. We hope that you will consider running for a position! The Candidate Declaration period ends February 20th and voting in the SGC occurs from March 11th-18th. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit our school’s website or http://www.fultonschools.org/en/about/charter
Numbers to Keep in Mind
· 1/5 adolescents have a diagnosable mental health disorder –usually presents 10-11 years old, and becomes more obvious by 13.
· Less than half of these students receive treatment
· About 1 in 6 children in the United States have a developmental disability, ranging from mild disabilities such as speech and language impairments to serious developmental disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, and autism
· What this means for you: There are many reasons why instructional methods, interventions, and strategies don’t seem to be working well for certain students. Students develop skills at different rates and may not “show” the fruits of your efforts until long after you have taught them. Try to stay positive: The important thing according to the research on at-risk students is that we nurture and support students- no matter what illness/disability may be going on behind the scenes.
How? – Listen and try to make time to check in with your struggling students.
have a mailbox where students can drop off notes "tell me later, alligator"
pull a lunch group every few weeks
have a notebook that you can write back and forth in
leave notes for them, asking them questions about how they are doing
Student Mentoring Referral-
We are VERY lucky to have some Alpharetta HS students coming to NPE on Wednesday mornings from 7:10-7:40 to work with students who need some extra support and would benefit from a mentoring relationship.
Please take a moment and refer any students you feel would benefit. https://goo.gl/forms/lp7SOvrwS2zxWIv62
