Student Led Conferences - March 14th

Student Led Conferences are scheduled for Thursday March 14th. This round of conferences will be student led. This means that all students should attend their conference with their parent / guardian. One of our school goals is to increase our students’ ownership and responsibility of their learning. The process our students go through preparing, practicing, and performing at the student led conference is an important piece toward achieving this goal.

Momo Challenge

You may have heard of the “Momo Challenge” from WhatsApp to Facebook to even YouTube Kids. Authorities say there could be suicide instructions targeting children. This may be inconclusive or a hoax. As always, it is recommended that parents continue monitor technology usage to ensure safety.

The website snopes.com offers additional information about the "Momo Challenge".

The bottom line...the idea that this is real or a hoax is inconclusive. Possibly one of the more helpful pieces of advice quoted on Snopes is this: “Preemptively addressing something with your kid is always better,” said Dr. Meghan Walls, a pediatric psychologist. She says it might be a good idea to gently ask your younger kids if they know about this. Something like, "Ya know, there’s some scary things that pop up on phones and tablets and if you ever see something like that, come get me." And for your older kids? Maybe get them to promise they’ll talk to you about the Momo Challenge if it’s sent to them. It’s not realistic to simply take their phone or tablet away, but let them know this is potentially dangerous, and that you’re trusting them to let you know what’s going on.
