Principal's Update

As we head into the last 6 weeks of school there is so much going on. In this newsletter I will provide current updates about events that are rapidly approaching.

Next week starts EOC testing. I know there has been some confusion about testing so I have recorded a video to explain how testing is going to work. This week's tests will be ELA 1 and ELA 2. Both ELA sessions will have the same bell schedule, posted below, on both days.

WHEN: Testing days are Tuesday April 20th and Wednesday April 21st. The ELA tests is longer than the others so we have divided it up into 2 days in order for reduce tests fatigue.

WHO: 10th graders take ELA 2 and the only students taking ELA 1 are those that are retesting. Current Freshman no longer take the ELA 1 test.

Lunch: On all EOC testing days students can leave and go home if they are able to get a ride. If the students who are testing can't get a ride they can go to lunch and then attend the remainder of their classes virtually while still being at the school. Student classes are virtual that day otherwise. Polaris students whose schedules don't align with our virtual schedule should reach out to their teachers to let them know, their absences will be excused. There is a lunch survey in this newsletter below the schedule, please fill it out so we have a general idea of how many students we will be preparing food for that day.

Dear Seniors and Parents:

We are excited to share the final details of our Commencement ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 30th. As you may know, our Commencement ceremony will be held at Pat Catan Stadium.

Due to current Ohio Department of Health (ODH) requirements regarding capacity limits and social distancing requirements, we will be having two commencement ceremonies in order to adhere to requirements and allow graduates to have as many tickets as possible for guests. Note. If ODH requirements change prior to Commencement, alterations to the ceremony

proceedings may be made, if possible.

Ceremony One: Graduates with the Last Name A-L @ 11:00 AM

Ceremony Two: Graduates with the Last Name M-Z @ 3:00 PM

Rain Dates. If there is inclement weather on Sunday, May 30th, the ceremony will then take place on Monday, May 31st following the same schedule as outlined above. Should there be inclement weather on both dates above, the ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 6th.

Arrival Times. Students and their family should arrive at Strongsville High School and report to their designated parking lot during their assigned report time as detailed below. We ask that the graduates please arrive in the same vehicle as their family, as we will have limited parking available.

Please DO NOT use Radmaker-Miller Lane to access SHS on May 30th, as this will be used strictly as an exit road.

Handicapped Parking. We will have handicapped parking available in the parking lot between the High School and Pat Catan Stadium. Please complete Handicapped Parking Request form, as this will allow us to provide you a parking pass.

Handicapped Seating: If you or a family member will need access to handicapped seating, please complete Handicapped Seating Request form, as this will allow us to provide you a handicapped seating pass.

Campus Map. Please click HERE for a map of SHS with parking lots, drop off point, etc. identified. No Food or Drink is permitted in Pat Catan Stadium during the ceremony.

Blended Families. Students with different last names in the same family will attend the same Commencement ceremony and may choose for their graduates to be announced back-to-back. Blended families that would like to have their graduates announced back-to-back will be assigned to the second session at 3:00 PM and must complete the Blended Family Request form. For graduates with divorced/blended families or families with more than one graduate, two cars per family will be permitted and we ask that you plan ahead to coordinate your arrival to SHS.

Graduate Procession Plan. Please find below the procession plan outline for graduates and their families. Every graduate and family members in attendance should be familiar with the procession plan to ensure a smooth and memorable day for everyone.

  1. When arriving, please drop off your graduate ONLY in front of the building near the main doors. The graduate will then walk via the sidewalk to the auditorium entrance doors. Graduates will be organized in the auditorium and then proceed to Pat Catan Stadium as an entire group. Once the graduate has exited the vehicle, please park in your designated parking lot.

  1. Once the vehicle is parked in the assigned lot, family members may exit the car and make their way to Pat Catan Stadium.

Graduate Attire: Due to graduates walking on the Pat Catan Stadium turf, heels may NOT be worn this year for graduation (Wedge Shoes will be permitted). Graduates are NOT permitted to decorate their caps.

COVID Procedures. Due to current conditions and restrictions, the graduate and family members attending will be asked to verify that they are not exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, temperature over 100.4), and that they have not be in contact with others that have or are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. All attendees will be required to wear a mask while on SCS property.

Conclusion of Ceremony. After the ceremony, graduates will exit the field to meet their family behind the bleachers of Pat Catan Stadium. Please refrain from gathering in groups for photos.

Tickets and Family Seating.

To comply with the ODH requirements for social distancing and capacity limits for outdoor events, each graduate will receive six (6) tickets. Sharing of tickets with other families is not permitted due to seating arrangements. Families must sit in marked areas to maintain 6 feet social distancing.

Commencement Live Streaming. The district will be live streaming the Commencement ceremonies via SCS-TV.

Decorations. Families may decorate their vehicles, but please refrain from decorating Strongsville High School and Pat Catan Stadium property. District staff will be decorating the property with signs and more for the ceremony. Graduates are not permitted to decorate their caps.

Video/Photo Disclaimer. As a reminder, the graduation ceremony will be a live streamed event. There will be several cameras recording and taking photos for live streaming. We ask that you please remain in your seat at all times during the ceremony.

Commencement Rehearsal:

Please note we will have two commencement rehearsals on Thursday, May 27th. Commencement rehearsals will take place in the SHS Main Gymnasium. All seniors participating in commencement MUST attend their designated rehearsal. School fees must be paid to participate in commencement ceremonies.

Little Mermaid

The hard work of our theatre team is finally coming together for the big show. The shows can be seen on Friday April 23rd and Saturday April 24th. (the promo video has the wrong days).

Below is pertinent information that could be shared regarding purchasing tickets:

  • You may purchase tickets by visiting
  • Streaming tickets are $15 + a processing fee.
  • Purchase tickets before 7pm of scheduled date.
  • You must sign in by 7pm on the assigned date to view the stream. There is no open window for viewing.
  • Each ticket purchase is per device (i.e. you can only view on one device)

This is the eighth straight year the District has earned this distinction. Strongsville is one of 686 school districts nationwide to be recognized by NAMM, and one of just 20 school districts in Northeast Ohio to receive this prestigious award in 2021.

Health Heroes, Inc. will be offering the TDaP and Meningitis vaccinations on Wednesday, May 5th at Strongsville High School and Strongsville Middle School. These vaccinations are REQUIRED for school attendance by the State of Ohio. Click HERE for additional information on this vaccination clinic. If you are interested in getting your student vaccinated on May 5th, click HERE for the consent form which needs to be completed and returned to your student’s school no later than Friday, April 30th.

The date for PROM and after prom will be on Sunday June 6th from 6PM to 12AM.

Prom will begin at 6PM and we are excited to announce that we will have food trucks there and an outdoor dining area. Thank you to the City of Strongsville for donating tables for the event.

The prom will go from 6:00 to 8:30 and then students can take a 30 minute break to change and come back for after prom from 9-12.

Ticket Sales:

April 19-30th- excluding the EOC days. Tickets are $50 and will include both Prom and after prom. The ticket includes dinner and a dessert. Students can bring extra money if they want additional food although After Prom will have food as well.

The junior student council members will sell them during lunches in the cafeteria.

There will be DJ and the dance floor will be the football field. We will have multiple photo booths, music all night, and other after prom surprises.

We are excited about the creativity and energy this year's prom will have and a huge thank you goes out to Brittany Sermak, Jen Orlosky, and Dan Foust for their time and effort in getting this idea to reality.

There will be no high heels on our football field so we will provide flip flops, while dancing, to any student who wants to wear heels to the dance. We encourage wedges which will not damage the field.

End of the year ceremonies

The schedule is as follows:

Academic Awards: These events are going to be in the gym and live streamed for families. Due to size restrictions only students can attend. Students who qualify should have received a letter. If you feel you didn't get a letter when you should have please email me at bwingler@scsmustangs and/or Mrs. Orlosky There have been some issues with the mail lately.
