The hurricane badly damaged the town, only 2,146 buildings survived. They moved those buildings to other locations. The damage was about $30 million. The place was a mess, debris was every were plants were up rooted out of the ground and 3,636 houses were destroyed.
When the Galveston hurricane hit 6000 to 8000 people were estimated to have died . Lots of people lost there homes and many people were left hungry and homeless. They lost almost all of there belongings
Galveston citizens received help from many places. New York City raised $ 27,907 over 712,000 in todays money, to help the children of Galveston. A lady named Clara Barton rote a letter to the US government telling them about the flood. She was concerned about the children with no homes. She was part of the red cross.
