Lion's Mane (Parent Edition)

Your home for MHS news & events. Volume 11

We made it

Thanksgiving Break is almost here. Please utilize this time to rest and prepare for the sprint towards the end of the first semester. Parents of senior students: I know you don't need reminding of the important college deadlines looming. Don't hesitate to schedule appointments with your child's counselor.

PTO Updates

Thank you to our PTO for the wonderful work that you do for MHS. I want to challenge our parents to increase our PTO by 150 members by the end of the Fall semester. Many of you already belong to a booster club that supports your child's activity, and we appreciate that. PTO supports our teachers and provides classroom grants for them along with academic scholarships for MHS students. Your $10.00 membership goes a long way in supporting the work of our PTO.

Attached is the membership form if you would like to become a member. Come on Lion Nation, we can attract 150 new members!

There will be no PTO Lunch and Learn for December!

Did you Know

McKinney High School received its charter for the National Honor Society on August 5, 1952. Nine members were inducted into the prestigious society. The charter remains in good standing, and qualified students are inducted each year based on leadership, scholarship, service and character.

HAC Alerts are now available

Parents, you now have the option of having HAC alerts sent to you for the following reasons: when your child's attendance code is changed (tardy, absence, etc.), when your child's course average drops below a certain range, when a grade falls below a threshold, or when report cards are available for viewing.

For more information about setting alerts, go to the Help manual, which is located in the upper right corner of the HAC landing page. Make sure you utilize your guardian login information in order to subscribe to HAC alerts.

MHS Students doing great things

  • Congratulations to Alex Pardis (Sophomore Cellist) and Sai Sai Ding (Freshmen Cellist) for being named All State in Orchestra.
  • Congratulations to Claire Embry (University of South Florida) and Abigail McFarlane (Carson Newman University) for signing letters of intent to play volleyball next year.
  • Congratulations to Jason Addington for winning the First Annual McKinney's Got Talent show on Friday with his amazing beat box skills.

Helping our Students in Need.

Ms. Hamilton, our Communities in School liaison, has started a clothes closet to help our students in need. It occurred to me that some students may not be in dress code due to lack of appropriate options. If your teenagers have outgrown their clothes or you have clothes of your own that you are willing to donate, please email Faithe at
