The Seahawks Call
March 7 - 20, 2022
A message from Principal Taylor.............
Students not adhering to Cell Phone Policy & Calling Parents - Consequences will be issued
Because this call was made unbeknownst to school administration, nurse, front office, or any other school staff member, it poses a problem when the parent/guardian just shows up to the school reporting they are coming to sign out their child early because their child called (or texted) due to being sick. The parent is expecting for this early release to be excused since it's health-related.
However, we only excuse early release due to health issues if the parent/guardian was contacted by the SCHOOL NURSE to come and pick up your child. This issue gets more complicated when the parent/guardian sends someone else to pick up the child and now written parental consent must be obtained.
Due to the student not complying, two actions will take place:
1) If pick up is due to student calling saying they are sick, the early release will be marked as "unexcused" unless the attendance secretary receives a medical note from the doctor within 3 days.
2) For not placing cell phone in their locker, when your child returns to school, they will turn in their cell phone to the front office where it will be housed during the school day for one week. The student will be able to retrieve their cell phone daily at dismissal during the one week period.
Thank you in advance for working with us to maintain order and teaching our students how to comply with policies and procedures.
New Bus Pass Procedures
Charles County Public Schools will now permit schools to issue and manage bus passes. Therefore, the procedures for requesting a bus pass are as follows:
Ø You may request a bus pass by sending in a note or email only to the office. No requests will be accepted over the phone. You may send an email to lmcfadden@ccboe.com or scrout@ccboe.com.
Ø The office must receive a note or email from the parent/guardian of the student who is requesting the bus pass and must include the following information:
· Your Child’s Name
· The actual date bus change is taking place
· Your child’s original bus #
· The name of the student your child will be riding home with
· The bus # of the student your child will be riding home with
Ø The office must also be given a note from the receiving parent/guardian acknowledging they are aware of the request and giving consent for another student to ride home with their child.
Ø The note and/or email must be received no later than 12:00 pm on the same day the bus pass request is being made.
Ø If it is a 2-hour early dismissal day, the note and/or email must be received no later than 10:00 am on the same day the bus request is being made.

If you have any questions about submitting photos or purchasing a yearbook, please email either Ms. Villela or Ms. Strobel.
8th Grade Proofs must be received by April 11th!
CCPS requires all students entering 9th grade to provide two (2) current proofs of domicile to update their child's record. Your child's schedule will not be finalized for the 2022-2023 school year until your proofs are received. Please see the attached letter regarding this process. Proofs may be uploaded through ParentVue, brought into the counseling office during school hours, or emailed to our guidance secretary, Mrs. Matos, at rmatos@ccboe.com. Proofs must be received no later than April 11, 2022.
Immunizations
Attention parents of current 6th graders:
There are two immunizations that your child will be required to receive before they enter the 7th grade (meningococcal MCV4 and Tdap). If your child has already received these immunizations at a recent well-visit, please send us a copy now so that it can be processed. If your child is due to receive them later this school year or over the summer, please request a copy during your visit to send to our nurse. Immunization records can be emailed to antaylor@ccboe.com, faxed to (301) 934-2982, or dropped off to the main office.
.................From the Library
Somers Reads!
In February, 44 students read and logged 200 or more minutes in Beanstack to track their reading. Their combined minutes read totaled 15,700! Way to read! And 31 of them read 200 or more minutes in February!
Something to look forward to!
The Scholastic Book Fair is almost here! We will be doing an in-person book fair the week of March 21-25. Come join us as we use books to travel through time! Save those dates and let's make this book fair fabulous!
Laptop Reminder!
Laptops will run better when they are updated weekly and when they are shut down once a week. Also, the school issued laptops are only for school use. Students have been reminded that because these are school issued, they are only to be using them for school, not for gaming or Netflix binges.
