Mrs. Fortunato’s Message
Dear Parents,
I think you would agree the world doesn't seem so big and disconnected these days.
Once again, I am grateful for my ICS community during these trying times. Thank you for helping me keep our school community well informed and supported. We will continue to work together to best educate our students as we instruct virtually.
I am grateful we had the time in school yesterday to prepare our students for a closure. It gave us a chance to talk to them and answer questions. I shared an informative article giving suggestions on how to address your child's concerns. Continue to have conversations with your child and pay attention to changed behavior. Please be wise about having the news on with your children in the room. Even our 8th graders can feel the stress of the repeated reports. I visited every room yesterday and asked students if they had any questions for me. Many students had great questions and some shared great information. However, one question from a young elementary student left an impression. He asked if we were going to die from the virus. Although that seems hard to believe, it was a good question. It was a question that needed to be answered with a solid "no" along with a simple explanation. That innocent question is a reminder for all of us. Our children need to know they are safe at all times. At the same time, they need a way to share their fears. Please remember to continue to pray at home. In school, we pray often during our day together. Perhaps you can ask your child how many times a day he/she participates in prayer and make those times a part of your new routine.
For your information~
Hunterdon Healthcare has created a hotline for the community to call in with questions regarding Coronavirus. The Hunterdon Healthcare COVID Hotline can be reached by calling 908-788-6440. The hotline will be open seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
I will be in touch going forward with important information and updates. We care about and love our kids and their families. It is hard to be away from school and not worry.
May God continue to work through each of us as we journey through these next few weeks.
With heartfelt love~
Mrs. Fortunato
