St. Louis Language Immersion School
Important Updates & Reminders
No School on September 18th & 21st
Dear SLLIS Community,
The 2020-2021 school year is off to a great start! Our teachers have been working extremely
hard to meet both In-School and Virtual Learners’ needs, and our leadership team has been
problem-solving around the clock on technology and pandemic response. We thank you for
your patience and communication during these difficult times.
We worked tirelessly to respond to the current reality of the pandemic with new schedules,
instructional delivery methods, systems, and procedures. However, we have an ongoing urgent
need to ensure that our teachers have the tools, training, and support they need to implement
our dual language program and newly-developed curriculum with fidelity.
To address this need, SLLIS is scheduling an additional day of Professional Learning on
September 21, 2020, and is canceling virtual and in-school classes on this date. This additional
time will be critical to supporting our staff and ensuring strong instruction for your students
throughout the rest of the year. The school will remain closed on September 18, 2020, as per the original school calendar.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at
Thank you!
Dr. Meghan E. Hill
Superintendent
Important Mask Information
SLLIS is continuously reviewing public health information to promote the health and safety of its staff and students. Now that we have completed four weeks of on-site learning, we know that even our youngest students can wear masks for extended periods of time.
In order to continue to improve health and safety measures, SLLIS will require all students in grades Pre-K through 8th Grade to wear masks effective on Tuesday, September 8. SLLIS was formerly requiring masks for students in Grades 4-8 only per St. Louis City Dept of Health guidelines.
SLLIS will provide masks to all students. In some cases, these masks are too large for our youngest learners. Families may opt to send a more comfortable, smaller mask to school with their students.
Travel & Quarantine Reminder for Labor Day Weekend
As a reminder, SLLIS is taking all possible precautions to keep our in-school teachers and
students safe. As such, we require any student who has been in contact with a known case of
COVID-19 or any student who has travelled outside of Missouri or the greater St. Louis area
to quarantine away from the SLLIS building for upwards of ten (10) calendar days.
- Students who have been in contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis will be asked to quarantine for 14 calendar days.
- Students who have travelled outside of Missouri or the greater St. Louis area will be asked to quarantine for 10 calendar days OR may return to school after a negative COVID-19 test has been sent to SLLIS.
Please send test results to nurse@sllis.org.
Students who SLLIS requires to quarantine will have access to virtual learning during the
quarantine period. SLLIS will provide a learning device and a wifi hotspot if needed.
If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please contact kara.mank@sllis.org.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation, and enjoy the holiday weekend!
