Week of August 26-30, 2019
A Note From Mrs. Garrison
- 5:30: PPCD, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades
- 6:30: 3rd and 4th grades
This is a parent only event and is great time to learn about what is going on in your child's classroom.
Pre-K Parent Information night has been moved to Tuesday, September 24th at 5:30 pm.
This morning we practiced fire, security, and lock out safety drills. The children did an excellent job following directions and participating.
Each morning, we have a moment of silence at the end of morning announcements. During this time, students may reflect, pray, meditate or engage in any silent activity that is not likely to interfere with or distract another student. Please talk with your child about your expectations for them.
If you haven't joined the PTO, WE NEED YOU! We have a fun group of parents leading this organization and would love for you to join us. http://powellpto.com/index.html
Enjoy the weekend!

Thank you for your patience as everyone learns our arrival and dismissal procedures. Our first concern is always the safety of our students. Here are a few reminders concerning arrival and dismissal.
· Please say goodbye to your child at the front door and allow students to walk to class themselves. Parents are not allowed on the front porch at arrival or dismissal time.
· Front Walker parents may meet their children at the corner of Cochran’s Crossing and N. Cochran’s Green Circle. A crossing guard will help them cross the street safely.
· Do not let students out in parking lot in the mornings. It is not safe for them to walk across our carline traffic.
· Do not park in Cochran’s Green or along Cochran’s Crossing. CISD Police and Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office will be patrolling to prevent this. We strive to be good neighbors!
Please be patient as it usually takes a few days for everyone to settle into a carline routine. We are working hard to make it go as smoothly as possible.
Tips for the Car Rider Line
- Write your child’s name in bold black marker on the green car rider sign.
- Hang your sign from the rear view mirror with a clothes hanger.
- Pull up closely to the car in front of you.
- Don’t stop to look for your child. We will bring your child to you.
- Do not get out of the car.
- Put your child’s car seat on the passenger side. We will not walk around the car to place them on the driver’s side
- Teach your child to buckle up. If they need help with this, pull into a parking space.
- Don’t hold up the line.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE and are working hard to get your child home safely!
Clinic Happenings from Nurse Melissa
All medications, including prescription medication, over the counter medication, cough drops and inhalers, must be signed into the clinic by a parent or guardian. Students are not allowed to transport medication to and from school.
Accidents and spills happen often. Please send an extra change of clothing with your child in their backpack. We have a limited supply on hand in the clinic.
District Art Show Open House is September 7th from 11am - 3pm at the Sadler Administrarion Building.
James Cotham, Lena Gillis, Mika Pucan Yalung, Holland Slocum and Rachel Sorensen will represent Powell Elementary on September 7, 2019 at the District Art Show. This is quite an honor as over 1000 works of art were submitted for the selection process. The art work will be displayed at the Administration building for the 2019-20 school year.
2018-2019 artwork pick-up is at 3:00 pm following brief meeting.

Volunteers are essential to our library program. We had a WONDERFUL group of volunteers in the library last year, and we are excited about having another great year of help and support. If you would like to volunteer in the Powell library, please fill out the form linked below.
Volunteer Background Check
All volunteers in our school must complete the CISD Volunteer Background Check. This includes classroom readers, party volunteers, field trip chaperones and event volunteers. You can complete the free background check here. http://www.conroeisd.net/parents/get-involved/

Girls on the Run
This fall, Powell Elementary will once again be a site for Girls on the Run (GOTR). GOTR will be open to girls in 3rd and 4th grade. It is a program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind!
GOTR is a 10-week program where girls develop essential skills to help them establish lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. During the program, we also focus on the importance of teamwork, healthy relationships, and the role they can play in positively affecting and shaping our world. The girls will influence their community through a service project and physically and emotionally prepare for a celebratory 5K event!
The fall season begins the week of September 9. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00. Mrs. Owens will be talking to the 3rd and 4th grade girls about GOTR in PE class next week. If you are interested, please go to www.gotrgreaterhouston.org to get more information and register your daughter for the fall. We are looking forward to a great season!
