The Gator Gazette
August 2020
From our Principal's Pen
Hello, South Creek Gators!
The 2020-2021 school year has officially begun! Oh how we have missed our students! We are looking forward to connecting with our kids both virtually and in-person this week. We appreciate the partnership we have with each and every one of you!
We will begin our school year teaching our gators 3 areas of focus:
1. Be Safe
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Responsible
It's the Gator Way!
We know that the social emotional well-being of our students comes first! We will be intentional over the next few weeks to learn everything we can about your child. We want them to feel safe and loved in our school family. Whether they are at school or at home, they belong!
Once our students feel comfortable in their classrooms, the good work will begin! Each day our students will be engaged in Guided Reading, Daily Five literacy, Everyday Math lessons, Science, Social Studies, and reading & math remediation and interventions. We have a plan to make every student successful!
The staff of South Creek wishes your family well! Stay healthy and stay safe!

August 3rd & 4th--E-Learning Days
August 5th--Our 1st day of In-Person School
Many safety precautions will be implemented following the guidance of the CDC and the Marion County Health Department. South Creek typically encourages parent volunteers and in-person involvement, however, parents are not permitted to go past our school office during these times of COVID-19. For this reason, families are not able to walk their children to class or visit our school cafeteria until restrictions are lifted.
More details can be found in our South Creek Reopening Plan below.
Bus Information
Also, it is common for buses to run a little behind during our first week of school. We appreciate your patience while we work through procedures to ensure the safety of your child!
If your child is a bus rider, this is a great safety video to share with them!
Car Rider Procedures
AM Drop-off Procedures
Drop-off begins at 8:50 AM.
Remember to pull all the way up along the yellow line. Our goal is to have 10 cars ready for drop off at the same time.
Please remain in the car until supervising staff have given the signal for students to exit.
Do not move your car until supervising staff have given the signal to move.
Once the first 10 cars are dismissed, the next 10 cars will follow the same procedure until all students have been dropped off.
If you need to communicate changes or have other questions, please park in the front and go to the office so we don’t hold up the line.
Transportation changes (for car or bus rider) must be made prior to 2:00 PM.
Our Tardy bell rings at 9:00 AM.
PM Pick Up Procedures
Pick Up begins at 3:45 p.m.
Make sure you have your car tag and that it is displayed and visible to staff.
If you do not have a South Creek issued car tag, for any reason, you will be required to park, go to the office, and use your photo ID to check out your child. This is for the safety of our students!
The first car should pull all the way up to the stop sign. Please wait for a staff member to remove the sign before pulling into the car rider area.
Remember to pull all the way up along the yellow line. Our goal is to have 10 cars ready for dismissal at the same time.
The 11th car should stop at the corner, before the yellow line begins.
Please remain in your car while supervising staff help students get in their car.
Do not move your car until supervising staff give the signal to move.
Once the first 10 cars are dismissed, the next 10 cars will follow the same procedure until all students have been dismissed.
Thank you for your support and patience as we start the new school year!

Parent/Teacher Organization
Our PTO is a non-profit organization whose membership is open to any parent, guardian, or teacher at South Creek Elementary. We work together to help build a strong relationship between home and school. We work to support our students, teachers, and staff through events, activities, and raising funds – and we try to have fun doing it!
There are many ways you can become involved with the PTO. First, you can fill out a membership form at the link below for $5. You will be added to our email distribution list so that you can be updated on all the PTO opportunities.
PTO meetings are held once a month in the evenings. Free childcare will be provided to those attending. We encourage your attendance and your input.
Events for the 2020-2021 school year have been put on hold at this time. We appreciate your understanding as we try to navigate these unprecedented times.
PTO often has fundraisers to support school initiatives, but we never ask your children to go door to door. In addition to supporting school events, the PTO funds websites used by our students in the classroom, supports teacher projects and supplies, and organizes staff appreciation events. We even lead a South Creek Scholarship fund for a deserving Franklin Central senior each year!
You can directly help the PTO support South Creek by:
- Sending in Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education- Clip, save, and send in to your child’s teacher with the student’s name on the bag or envelope. This is ongoing throughout the year.
- Attending and/or Volunteering for Spirit Events in the community – a portion of the proceeds return to South Creek.
- Purchasing Spirit Wear for your students to wear on school Spirit Days. Opportunities to purchase new gator gear are coming. We are even planning on Gator water bottles and masks!
- Adding South Creek to your Kroger Rewards Card at Kroger Rewards.
