We encourage you to have a family discussion about your own college experiences and your goals for your children as they move their way up through their Senior year in High School- and on to Higher Education!

Garden News
With Fall upon us, it was time to get our seeds planted. Students were introduced to several root vegetables that we will be growing in the bed this year; carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, kale, and turnips. We examined the physical properties of a tiny carrot seed. Students were quick to point out color, size, shape and texture. Since several of the seeds we are planting are root vegetables, we spent some time discussing the function of a root.
In the garden, students helped to plants seeds. It was fun to compare how each seed's physical properties varied before placing them in the soil. Lots of carrot, radish, turnip, beet, lettuce and kale seeds were planted today! It will be very important to make sure that the vegetable beds are water daily for the next two weeks. This will ensure seeds will have the opportunity to germinate and sprout. Unfortunately, the sprinkler system shoots straight over the vegetable beds, so using the hose with the sprinkler attachment will be best for helping our vegetables get started.
There was lots to see in the Butterfly garden. Students observed many Sphinx Moth caterpillars devouring leaves, they were captivated by how quickly they worked to eat through a leaf. Gulf Fritillary caterpillars were also seen. We are anticipating the Monarch Migration to begin in the upcoming week, and I know Hamilton's butterfly garden will play an important part in helping some of the butterflies refuel on the sweet nectar it provides as they head South for the winter.
