The Panther Post
March 2022
March is here! We have moved through the halfway point of the 2021/2022 school year are things are looking up. Our county and community COVID numbers are dropping each week and we have officially lifted the mask mandate. Although masks are no longer required, we must continue to respect everyone's right to protect themselves in a manner they see fit. With the lifting of COVID restrictions, we are beginning to plan for more traditional events that allow our students to celebrate together. On April 2nd we will have our first Spring Fling dance for all our freshmen and sophomore students. May brings both the Junior and Senior Prom and we also hope to have a spring pep rally later in the spring sports season. The Junior Prom will be held in the cafeteria on Saturday April 30th from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM and the Senior Prom will be held on May 19th from 8:00 PM to 12:00 AM at the Marriott Metro Center. Mr. Wilson and the Visual and Performing Arts Department are planning to hold a Spring Festival beginning on May 4th , highlighting all the wonderful things our teachers and students have been doing all year. Look for more information in the coming weeks about this exciting event. Speaking of sports, spring teams have begun to practice and will begin their seasons in about two weeks. Our women's varsity basketball team is set to play in the State semi-finals on Tuesday March 8th at 7:30PM at Richard Montgomery High School. If victorious, we move on to the state final at College Park on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Xfinity Center. Please come out and support the team if you can. Let's color both gyms in purple!!!! Congratulations to all our winter sports teams for having fantastic seasons and making all Panthers proud.
A reminder that the next PTSA meeting will be held on Thursday March 10th at 7:00 PM in the cafeteria. Our school counseling chair, Mr. Jeremy Goldman, will be talking to 9th , 10th, and 11th grade parents about the college planning process. Please come out and support our Pawesome PTSA.

Students of the Month:
Isaiah Carter - 9th grade
Chauniya Ellison - 10th grade
Drew Richman - 11th grade
Melvin Willingham - 12th grade
This coming month is Women’s History Month. While we will focus on highlighting one extraordinary woman per day here at school, we hope you take the time to discuss with your student the accomplishments of women in the face of great adversity in the United States. Continually, we recognize that women of color have made significant contributions to a country that has not necessarily loved them in return, so be sure to reach out if you are looking for some stellar women to learn more about!
This past month featured various school and student celebrations of Black history and Black culture. While the successes of these celebrations are commended and recognized here at school, be sure to continue to discuss issues of concern for Black Americans whenever appropriate. Black history is American history, just as women’s history is American history, and should not be considered quarantined to only four weeks of celebration.
