Summer Updates

Happy Summer!

I hope you and your families are safe and well. I am sure your children(and you) are enjoying some time away from school work. Please see below for information about school supplies, supply lists and the reopen committee updates.

CCISD Safely Reopen Plan

The Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a set of recommendations to reopen schools on August 18, 2020. The recommendations reflect public feedback and provide CCISD staff guidance on what the community seeks in a learning environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recommendations were developed by the Safely Reopen CCISD Committee, a group of health professionals, parents, students, staff and community members.

These recommendations were the "what" and now the work begins on the "how". Please follow CCISD social media for updates on the plans. You can also check the link below to the CCISD Safely Reopen page for updates.

There will be more updates coming this week. Please be sure to see the dates below for live updates from the district about reopening.

New PE/ Playground/ field space construction is well underway!

Concrete is being poured, construction gates have been expanded and construction is well underway on the additional outdoor space we will have in August.

**You can no longer drive front the front to back of the building via the side road. The construction gate is up.

CCISD Summer Passport

Since most in-person summer camps have been cancelled due to COVID-19, students may be more limited in the activities they can participate in over the summer.

Today, Clear Creek ISD launches the CCISD Passport, a treasure trove of virtual experiences for students to access from the comfort of their homes. This project will take kids of all ages on virtual trips to a wide array of destinations for seven straight weeks. Some will even take place in 360° Virtual Reality so families are encouraged to purchase a VR headset for as little as $10 or make one at home.

Incoming sixth grader Whitten Vandygriff from Westbrook Intermediate School introduces a new world each week and participants can make their way through it at their own pace. Read-alouds, book recommendations and hands-on activities enhance the experience as they explore unique topics like nature’s wonders, outer space, and the arts. Students will have access to all worlds throughout the summer so they can go back to their favorites at any time.

CCISD librarians throughout the district split into groups in order to build this collection of resources over two and a half months. One group created read-alouds from home while a second group focused on providing access to digital resources. A third group came up with Makerspace activities for students to do at home and a fourth group gathered links for virtual field trips.

Though participation is optional and students will not be graded, there will be a downloadable passport available for students who would like to keep track of their travels. Themed souvenir badges for each world will also be available for parents to download and print for their younger travelers.

The program launches today and concludes during the last week in July.
