You Be the Chemist Challenge

Congratulations to Brandon LaCrosse and Nikhil Patel on their phenomenal achievements in the annual "You Be the Chemist Challenge" sponsored by Honeywell. Both boys finished in the top three for the Regional Competition, and were invited to participate at the State Competition last weekend. Brandon finished in the top 12 of the entire state and Nikhil placed third overall! Great job, future chemists!

Chess Club

We are excited to announce that Oak Grove Elementary won 2nd PLACE TEAM amongst all the Non-Rated players at the 102nd Kumbaya Chess Tournament held at Niles North High School last weekend. This tournament is an officially recognized tournament by the United States Chess Federation, the governing body of chess in the U. S., and we are so proud of all the students that participated in the event.
Congratulations to the participating players and our entire school chess team!

Check out these great, new problem solving videos made by our very own fourth and fifth grade students! The kids did a great job and had a lot of fun making them. The younger students really enjoyed watching them. Thanks to Dr. Meltzer for the special effects!

Curriculum Corner

Hello Oak Grove Community,

Next year, we will be continuing the conversation of standards based grading and reporting at the middle school level. If this is a topic of interest for you, we have a committee for you.

Starting in the fall, we will be facilitating a Middle School SBG committee which will include teachers, parents, administrators and board representation. Topics will include research about SBG, reviewing models from other districts and determining our middle school roll out plan. Our meetings will generally meet monthly from 4-6 pm. Specific dates and times will be determined closer to the start of the committee.

Parent interest will be requested in the first OG news of the 2017-2018 school year. We are looking forward to the conversation.

Friendly Reminder

Advisory Council parent feedback forms are due by Friday.
