The Pizitz Post
for Students, Parents & Families - February 14, 2022
Kindness
Kindness and respect go hand in hand. Last week, teachers highlighted students who have shown respect. Parents and students will receive a "Pirate Praise" email when a staff member sees a student living out the core values in a meaningful way at school.
Showcasing Student Work
Last week, our FACS class held an unconventional fashion show. Students, teachers, and families had the opportunity to come see the students in action. This was a great opportunity to see students' work products on display. They hosted guests by cooking and serving food. Students showcased their creativity by sharing their costume design through a fashion show. Thank you, parents, for coming to see their work.
Course Selections
Current 6th/7th grade parents: If you missed the virtual meetings last week, all of the information is posted on our website in the live binder here. We have also added the questions that were asked in each session for your reference. Sixth and seventh graders course cards and Powerschool entries are also due this Thursday, February 17. Please touch base with a counselor or administrator if you have questions.
If you are also a parent of an incoming 6th grader, you will receive information for them this week!
Things to Note
- For planning purposes, we want to be sure you are aware of important dates for testing. The ACAP assessment will be administered the week of April 25-29. Please make every effort to have your child at school on those dates.
- In preparation for high school assessments, our 8th graders will be taking part in semester exams this spring. These exams will be held May 17-20.
- Looking ahead, we will have an alternate schedule on Tuesday, February 22 due to our author visit. Students can plan for a morning assembly, and shortened classes throughout the day. We will share the schedule with you in next week's post.
Don't forget...students will get a long break this weekend. We will not have school on Friday, February 18 or Monday, February 21. We hope you enjoy this time with your families!
Scoliosis Screener
If you do not complete the form, we will assume you do not want your child to participate. Extra copies will be available at the front office. All forms are due on Friday, February 25.
Rebel Run
We are excited to announce that this year's annual REBEL 5K Color Run will be dedicated to Sam Cunningham! The run will take place on Saturday, March 5. Registration is open now and will close on Tuesday, February 22. PLEASE USE THIS UPDATED LINK to register.
Pizitz students and families who register will have their t-shirts delivered to them on the Pizitz campus when they arrive prior to the run date. Go Rebels! Go RISE!
Visiting Author
We are excited to announce that Jordan Sonnenblick, author of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie will be visiting Pizitz Tuesday, February 22!
As part of Jordan Sonnenblick's visit, two students from each grade will be selected to have lunch with the author! Students, if you are interested in this opportunity, please come by the library to put your name in the drawing by Wednesday of this week.
Schoolwide Philanthropy Fundraiser
Our school-wide philanthropy this year is On River Time. Check out information about this organization here.
One of the ways we will be raising money for this worthy cause is through selling t-shirts. There are two styles (which you can see by visiting the link here) and the shirts will be sold for $20 each. Sizes for these shirts will be ADULT SIZES. The last day to order your shirt is Tuesday, February 15. The order form can be found on the Pizitz SGA website here. Payment, via CASH or CHECK (made out to PIZITZ with a phone number), must be made by the end of the day February 16, or your order will not be filled.
If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Button Smith (smithel@vestavia.k12.al.us). Thank you in advance for your support!
