A Message from Ms. Valentine, Principal
Greetings, Students, Staff, and Families,
As a gentle reminder, Mon, Nov 20 and Tues, Nov 21 are early release days. School is closed in observance for Thanksgiving break Nov 22-24. As we look forward to the Thanksgiving break, I wish Springbrook students, staff, and families, a wonderful time with family and friends this Thanksgiving Season. Safe travels for those of you going out of town.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Springbrook High School will hold parent-teacher conferences on Mon, Nov 20, 2023, from 12:15 - 5:45 PM. Due to scheduling conflicts, a few teachers may hold parent-teacher conferences on Mon, Nov 20, 2023, AND Tues, Nov 21, 2023, from 12:15 - 2:50 PM.
- We reserve conferences on these dates to support identified underperforming students.
- Parents and caregivers who wish to meet with teachers but are unable to schedule conferences with teachers may schedule conferences any other day of the school year.
Teachers and counselors have contacted parents and caregivers using emails and phone calls to schedule appointments. Conferences will be held in various formats to meet with parents (phone, zoom, and in-person)
Translation services are available for conferences using phone and in-person conferences

Celebrating Native American Heritage Month
ACES is Accepting Applications for Grade 10 Students
Mr. Pineda, our wonderful ACES Coach, is currently leading grade 11 ACES students through the college process with planned in-person career coaching and open help sessions.
Grade 10 students are encouraged to apply to the ACES Program! ACES stands for “Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success,” a countywide partnership with MCPS, Montgomery College, and The Universities at Shady Grove. Students admitted to the program receive the following:
- 1-on-1 coaching and
- a personalized plan leading to a seamless educational pathway from high school to college completion.
ACES also prepares 11th-grade and 12th-grade students for life after high school, with targeted support for students who have been historically underrepresented in the higher education system.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Be sure to sign up for college visits with Ms. Patterson in the career center
The 2024 Spring course catalog for Dual Enrollment with JUMPSTART is open for review only.
- Course requests will open the first week of November, so it is important to APPLY NOW if you have not already done so.
- Approved college classes taken through Dual Enrollment with Montgomery College are cost FREE for MCPS students this school year.
- There are options for students to take college classes at Springbrook, online, or on any of the three MC campuses.
- Please contact Mrs. Campbell for more details and to see if the Jumpstart program under Dual Enrollment is a good fit.
Learning About Policy and Internship Opportunties
Ms. Jenn Laskin, JLS program coordinator, invited Kristin Mink, council member, to speak to JLS students during the lunch block on Fri, Nov 17, 2023. Students discussed policy making and advocacy, how council members support the coummunity, and learned about internship opportunities with the council member.

Led by Mr. Ira Branch, psychology teacher, the Latin Student Union created and presented Springbrook's Latin American Heritage Assembly, Fri, Nov 17, 2023. The production celebrated the histories, cultures and traditions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, and recognized the contributions that Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in USA culture.
UMD Fire Protection Engineering Visit 2023
Ms. Emily Heimsoth, PLTW teacher, invited the UMD Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) Department to visit her Principles of Engineering class, Fri, Nov 17, 2023. Students learned about fire protection engineering and experienced a live fire tornado demonstration.
