GCA PTSO Receives Grant!!

GCA PSTO President-Jill Smith along with GCA Head of School-Matt Arkin accepted a $1,500 Grant from Mr Rich Thompson-Executive Director of Georgia PTO on March 15th. They were joined at the ceremony by GCA High School teacher- Jermal McCoy, Family Engagement Coordinator-Maria Blencowe, and PTSO Vice President-Michelle Gilyard. This is wonderful news. Jill Smith wants to thank all the PTSO members and parent volunteers for making this happen.

It's Voting Time!!

It is time to choose your new PTSO Executive Board for the 2016-2017 school year. All PTSO members please keep an eye on your email for the election ballots. Only PTSO members are allowed to vote. April Regional Events

As a reminder, check the Regional Calendar ( for events in your Region, as well as your Region’s Facebook page (you can find the list of FB page links here.) If there is something you want to see in your Region, contact your Region Lead OR Alyce Avary, your Region Chair. If we don’t know what kind of activities you want to see, we can’t plan them for you.

April 15,2016: Tellus museum From 10:30 to 4 $12 a kid, $14 adult

National Build Events at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Every month, both Lowe’s and Home Depot offer kids’ clinics for free.

April 2nd: Home Depot. 9 am-12. Build a Butterfly House. Kids get to keep the craft, and will receive an apron, certificate, and pin. Registration is HIGHLY recommended as spots fill up quickly.

April 9th: Lowes. 10-11 am. Bird Feeder. Kids get to keep the craft, and will receive an apron, certificate, goggles, and a patch. Registration is HIGHLY recommended as spots fill up quickly. More information can be found at

Public Homeschool Event

April 20th: 6:00 pm. Jack Turner Softball Stadium (2330 S. Milledge Ave, Athens, GA). FREE event. UGA Bulldogs vs. Georgia State. Softball Game.

Region 6

April 22nd: 9:30 am-12:30 pm. 4770 N. Peachtree Rd. Dunwoody, GA. Treetop Quest. The event will go on as long as there is a minimum of $350 in admissions purchased. This should provide a great experience with little crowding. Information on the different levels can be found at:

Group Rates are as follows: Ages 4-6: $22, Ages 7-11: $24, Ages 12-17: $32, Ages 18+: $37. There is no charge to stay on the ground and watch. Payment can be sent via PayPal to If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tara Baldwin, Region 6 Lead. The money will NOT be used by the PTSO, it will be used SOLELY to pay for attendance to this event. If the minimum attendance is not met, you will need to contact Tara Baldwin for a refund.

Region 7

April 6th: 3:00 p.m. Under the Stars, Jumper Night Come and watch horse and riders compete under the covered arena. Fence heights start at 2’3” and work up to 3’9”. Cost is free and it’s directed to all ages. For more information:

April 6th: starting at 5:00 p.m. ParTee on the Green . Augusta Common. Cost is $2 per person. Enjoy dance party for all ages (variety of music). Performances by community dance group and line dance finale. There will also be many vendors. For more information please call 762-233-5299

April 23rd: 10 am. ***D.I.G. STEM Festival*** Williston, SC Cost is free, Suitable for all ages. This festival is intended to raise awareness in rural communities about the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) field. The festival includes local exhibitors, food vendors, live music, and hands on experience with flying drones, robotics, flight simulators, virtual reality games, and more. April 8th & 9th: 4 pm. Westobou Presents Springboard. Augusta Common. Cost is free, suitable for all ages. Starlight Cinema features: E.T. on Friday night and Labrynth on Saturday. Fundraising From Home!

My name is Shirley Lester and I’m thrilled to be the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for Georgia Cyber Academy. Clipping Box Tops is an easy way for you to help our school earn cash. GCA has earned during 2015-2016 a grand Total of $1394.60 from Box Tops. This money is used to get student incentives for their students. This school year, our school’s earnings goal was $1200.00, which we have met. Thank you to everyone, but lets see how much above our goal we can get.
