Spring Concert
· The month of March is “Music In Our Schools” month. Our students are celebrating the joy of music as they prepare for the big Spring concert – Best Self Work World, being performed at Bell Oaks on Monday, March 14th at 7 p.m. Ethel Burke students and staff truly appreciate the efforts of our director, Mrs. Sally Kolody, for her work in getting us ready for the big show!
Read Across America Day
· We celebrated “Read Across America” day on March 2nd. Everyone was excited to commemorate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with an array of literature-based activities, including visits from several guest readers. Our students were thrilled when our guest visitor arrived - The Cat In the Hat himself! It was an awesome day and one that we will not soon forget!
Check out our Dr. Seuss socks!
Our students are always ready to read!
Reading is our passion!

What's Happening in Second Grade?
The second graders in Miss McCarthy's class have been focusing on non-fiction writing in Writer's Workshop. Students learned that in order to become a fact expert you have to research the topic first. They have been using various resources such as books, articles, websites, and videos.
The class visited the computer lab to visit various websites and took notes by "stopping and jotting" as they read. After researching, students put the facts into their own words to write a book about their topic! All students have published a book 'All About Penguins' and have learned some amazing facts about our mascot, the penguin! Next time you see a second grader from Miss McCarthy's class, ask him/her to share some facts about penguins! Currently, the class is researching and writing a nonfiction book about Space. Everyone is excited to learn as much as they can about this topic since they are visiting the Edelman Planetarium for their field trip!
