Christ Child Academy Newsletter
December 19, 2019
From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
As we part ways to celebrate Christmas, I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. As Catholics, we are given an opportunity to renew ourselves to be the best Catholics we can be as we fulfill our duties as parents, grandparents, children, and teachers dedicated to His holy word.
The 2019-2020 school year has gone very well, and I appreciate all the support and blessings we continue to receive from all the parents, grandparents, and students. Our exemplary Catholic school continues to develop the whole child while infusing Catholic values in everything that we do. During the rest of this school year and into the future, we are pursuing Accreditation, Standards-Based Grading, and maintaining a healthy enrollment while strengthening our school’s viability for years to come. Together, we can embrace these changes which will allow our school to grow and prosper.
On behalf of the staff and faculty, we wish our Christ Child Academy families all the blessings of this most joyous season.
Thank you for giving your child the gift of a Catholic education and for choosing Christ Child Academy.
The Calendar Raffle Incentive has been announced. Students will be turning Principal Ruedinger into a Ice Cream Sundae! For students to participate, families must sell 25+ raffles by January 3rd. Here is a great way to cover me from head to toe in ice cream, cool whip, sprinkles, chocolate syrup all for a great cause.
The Christmas concert video, along with other past performances, can be found on the CCA website at the bottom of the home page under resources and can also be viewed by using the following link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Bx1WZOHM4AZmxX-3XhgWmHEhgJIc5v-I.
Tomorrow, Friday, December 20, we will have our traditional Christmas spaghetti lunch for all of our students and staff. If your child does not wish to eat spaghetti, please send a cold lunch with him/her on that day. This has become a favorite of the students as they eat with their buddies and listen to Christmas music; while the teachers serve, eat with the students, and help clean up. This is a great way for our CCA family to come together prior to the Christmas break.
Tomorrow, Friday, December 20, we have early dismissal at 1:00 pm (with busing). Please be prompt in picking your child/children up that afternoon. School will resume on Thursday, January 2nd.
On November 14th CCA participated in the Guinness Book of World Record day in Cup Stacking. The kids had fun participating during their lunch recess. The students of Christ Child Academy were part of 638,503 cup stackers that day, breaking the world record from last year!! Awesome job!!
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing for grades K - 2 only will be held Monday, January 6 and Tuesday, January 7th. MAP is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child’s academic growth. All students in grades K-2 will be tested to track their academic growth. Please do not schedule any appointments for your children during this time. It is important that the students are in attendance and well-rested, so they can do their best on the tests. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Surprising Benefits of Going to Church
As parents of students at a Catholic school, you already understand the importance of Faith and religion in the development of your children. At CCA, we do an excellent job of teaching the Catholic faith and living it's lesson daily. The best way to support what we do in the classroom and further enrich your children's faith is to attend Mass each weekend. For the many families that make this a powerful family habit, I applaud you for making this a priority and reinforcing what we do daily at our school. If your family is not a regular attendee of weekend Mass, I encourage you to rediscover the many benefits of attending as a family.
Here is a great article regarding the benefits of attending church.
Cash & Carry Scrip sales will be available after church this weekend, December 21 & 22.

Standards Based Grading
During this school year, Christ Child Academy will be transitioning from a traditional grading system to standards based grading system, which will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has strongly recommended that all schools move to this reporting framework.
As we proceed through this transition over the next year, please know that our goal of academic excellence remains our priority. These "best practices" will enable parents to fully understand where their child is academically while at the same time motivating students to become life-learners.
The Parenting Guide to Standards Based Grading will provide valuable insight during this transition. Additional information will be coming in the following weeks.
