CFIE Mission:
Meet Our School Social Worker, Shannon Cetinkaya!
Hello Parent and Students! My name is Shannon Cetinkaya, and I am the School Social Worker for Carolina Forest International Elementary School. This is my second year at CFIES, and I am so happy to be a part of such a talented team and supportive community.
My primary responsibility at CFIES is to remove any barriers that prevent a student from fulfilling his or her academic potential. I also address issues regarding attendance, behavioral health concerns, social emotional concerns, and resources/needs; and linking families to community resources and providers.
I am at CFIES on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:30 am-3:00 pm and on Thursdays from 7:00 am-3:00 pm. Please feel free to reach out to reach out to me at shannon.cetinkaya@onslow.k12.nc.us or by phone at 910-346-1778.
Thank you for all you do to support the success and well-being of your child and our school. I look forward to working with you this year and to helping your child learn and grow at CFIES.

ASSESSMENT NEWS - The WHAT & WHY!
- iReady Diagnostic for Grade K-5 Math (8/30 - 9/20/21)- This assessment allows teachers to "analyze student math strengths and areas for growth; plan instruction that addresses the data; set goals with students and engage them in their learning; collaborate as teams; and engage families in their students' progress," (i-readycentral.com).
- K-3 (DIBELS) Reading Assessment (8/30 - 9/20/21)-"DIBELS are measures that help teachers and schools determine how students are performing on important reading skills. DIBELS stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills," (dibels.amplify.com). This assessment will be taken three times during the school year - beginning, middle, and end.
- Third Grade Beginning of Grade Test - September 8, 2021 - "The North Carolina BOG3 Reading Test is linked to the Read to Achieve Program. This test serves several purposes:
- It establishes a baseline measure of beginning third-grade students’ English language arts/reading skills.
- Students who score achievement level 3 or higher on the test demonstrate reading proficiency appropriate for third-grade students, which satisfies the requirements of the Read to Achieve legislation.
- Based on demonstrated student outcomes in reading proficiency, the test serves as a teacher-growth tool for determining those teachers who are well-suited to teach reading camps (G.S.§115C-83.3[4a]).
- Data from the administration of the test and the administration of the End-of-Grade 3 (EOG3) Reading Test are used for school accountability growth and student growth for teachers and administrators.
- Students in grade 3 who are not proficient on the EOG3 Reading Test but were proficient on the BOG3 Reading Test (i.e., score achievement level 3 or higher) count as proficient in the performance composite and school performance grades." - NC Check-Ins Reading Grades 4-5 (required) - (10/4 - 10/15/21) "NC Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards in Reading for grades 3–8 developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). The main purpose of NC Check-Ins is to provide students, teachers, parents, and stakeholders with immediate in-depth action-data and a reliable estimate of students’ current performance on the selected sub-set of content standards. A secondary purpose is derived from NC Check-Ins strong relationship with grade level end-of-grade (EOG) summative test. Both EOGs and NC Check-Ins share a common item bank, and performance on the NC Check-Ins serve as an early indicator of a student’s level of preparedness for the EOG summative test." - NC Check-Ins Science Grade 5 - (October 2021) "NC Check-Ins are interim assessments aligned to North Carolina grade-level content standards in science for grades 5 and 8 developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). There are three NC Science Check-Ins at each grade level administered after approximately nine weeks of instruction (NC Check-In Window 1, October; NC Check-In Window 2, January; NC Check-In Window 3, March). Each NC Science Check-In is constructed around the NC Essential Standards Numbering for Science Grades 5 and 8: Physical Science (P), Earth Science (E), and Life Science (L)."
