Support as you transition online
Hawaiʻi Community College
In response to the serious public health threat from a novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the University of Hawaii has made the decision to transition classes to distance delivery for the remainder of the spring semester.
Your instructors should be contacting you to let you know how to proceed in your classes. Some may be using a web conferencing tool like Zoom or Google Hangouts Meet to hold live classes, some may be using Laulima to conduct classes, and some may be doing a combination.
Please see below for resources, videos, and links to help you transition to your online classes.
Zoom Introduction video
A course offered through Laulima can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via the Internet (except daily from 3:00 AM – 4:00 AM for maintenance). Some instructors will use Laulima as a supplement for traditional face-to-face (f2f) or hybrid course. Other courses, including online courses may deliver all of the course material, testing, and communication using Laulima.
Note: Laulima was recently upgraded to version 12.7. The video was recorded prior to the update, so you may notice some cosmetic differences as well as other minor changes. However, the video is generally still applicable. An updated video is being worked on and will be uploaded once completed. We thank you for your patience.
You can also view/download the Student Guide to Laulima which has even more how-to instructions and tips. (Also written prior to the update.)
Missing a Course?
If you do not see your course listed along the top of the page after signing in to Laulima, check your "Sites Drawer" by clicking on the word "Sites" up in the top right corner of the Laulima screen next to your name.
You can customize the sites you have access to along the top of the page by using the stars in the Sites Drawer to favorite/un-favorite them. You can also use the Organize Favorites tab in the Sites drawer to control the display order of your favorite sites. Click and drag along the right side of any of the boxes to change the display order.
NOTE: Instructors can manually publish and unpublish courses sites. If your course is not listed in your Sites Drawer, please contact your instructor.
