STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Social Studies - Hunt and Gather
Ms. Kupcinski's students learned first hand what it was like to be a hunter and gatherer back in the day. In this activity, students explored the factors that contributed to the formation of the first human societies. In order to survive, students had to find representations of food, shelter, and water within a given time. They also learned about the geographical factors that influenced the beginnings of civilizations and reasons why humans were able to thrive as groups. This definitely is a student favorite.
Monopoly
After learning about John D. Rockefeller and big business. Mrs. Stevenson's students were given their opportunity to try their hand at business playing Monopoly. Everyone had a great time playing monopoly to see who could dominate in the business field just like Rockefeller!
Relay Race
Miss Merryman's students completed an adding and subtracting rational numbers relay race. Students had to work together to complete different parts of a problem, checking their teammates work as they go.
Reading The Monkey's Paw
During Mrs. Anzalone’s English class, students participated in a vocabulary bingo game. The bingo game review helped students understand the vocabulary words before reading, "The Monkey’s Paw" short story. Then they worked collaboratively in stations to review literary terms like foreshadowing, flashback, mood and tone.
Jeopardy
The students in Mrs. Albert's seventh grade English class prepared for an assessment with a challenging game of Jeopardy. They were quite competitive. Each member of the winning team earned an Albert Allowance, which is five points to use on an assignment of their choice.
Global Math Week
Mrs. Wenzel's classes celebrated the first day of Global Math Week, along with over 5 million other students across the globe. We all spoke the universal language of math and completed different activities related to "exploding dots". Students explored a whole new way to think about math in a fun way. Some comments from students were, "This is so addicting!" and "I actually might play this instead of video games today!". They especially liked our KAPOW competition, and congratulations to my period 3 class for winning! You can play too at http://www.explodingdots.org.
