Happy New Year!
On Tuesday, we began to talk about the letters in the alphabet. We are going to follow the Handwriting without Tears program for the order of our letters. We do it this way so that we can begin to form and write the letters correctly. We will start with a verticle line, a horizontal line, a cross, then a square....and the first letter is L! ( just a little background knowledge so you know what's going on). We use an interactive website called starfall that involves the kids. They learn about big letters, little letters, the sounds the letters make and things that start with the letter we are doing. Today, another new friend visited. Her name is Chloe ! Welcome Chloe! We are now up to 8 kiddos!! So exciting!! We also started to read, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear" with Miss Becky. We are using the real props with the story to represent the animals. We practice the noises that the animals make and we do a great job imitating each other! We also did some magical painting. We showed the kiddos a black silhouette of a polar bear. Then, they had to put their bear down on a white piece of paper. Then, we mixed blue and white paint together to create light blue. We scooped the paint with spoons and finger painted it all around our bear silhouette. When we painted all around it, we removed it. It left a white polar bear shape in the middle of all the finger paint. Everyone loved watching this cool efffect happen right before our eyes!
On Wednesday it was so nice out. First, we came in and did an awesome choice time. The kids put together and navigated an obstacle course and we did shaving cream and foam blocks at the table. The shaving cream allowed them to explore the blocks in a whole new way! We built tall towers, a wall and all kinds of things. Everyone loved getting messy and we all helped tidying up. We went right into circle time. I am SO proud of each one of your children. Everyone is sitting in a cube chair, paying attention, interacting and we are all improving upon following directions. During circle time we have been singing "one little finger" to continue to identify and label body parts. The kids love this song! Look for it on youtube! Since it was so nice out, we played for a while on the playground. I am sorry for messy pants and shirts that day!! Things were a little wet that day, but we were so happy to be able to get outside!
On Thursday, Miss Kara was in to play a wonderful snowball game. We had to work on following directions to throw, catch, and count the snowballs. The snowballs had faces on them with different emotions that we had to identify. At the end, we had a huge snowstorm and Miss Kara poured the snow on us. It was so much fun!
On Friday, we all came in smiling and noticing the snow! It was cold, wet , white....so much to talk about!! We used our platform swing today in class. The kids got to ride on their bellies, swing with a friend, go fast and go slow. We also rock and rolled on a pretend boat. We finished our walrus craft from Thursday, and we mixed together glue and shaving cream to make white puffy paint for our polar bear craft. We all counted to 3 as we poured the glue and squirted the shaving cream. We all counted to ten and tapped the table as we took turns stirring. We played with peg board during center time and read in the cozy center. Some kiddos wanted an airplane ride from Miss Courtney and others played in our favorite ...the kitchen! It has been a wonderful week together!
