December 4-8
Kindergarten Parent Weekly Guide
This Week's Happenings:
We look forward to seeing all of you at the holiday party on the 13th at 1:30! Teachers will send the names of volunteers to the office to get your visitor stickers preprinted. All party visitors who have already come inside the school as a volunteer or lunch visitor, can get your visitor sticker printed ahead of time so you don't have to wait in as long of a line. WATCH FOR A GOOGLE FORM IN THE POWELL PUBLISHER TO SIGN UP FOR A PREPRINTED STICKER. If you have never been scanned into the school system to get a visitor sticker before, you will have to get your ID scanned in before your sticker can be made. You can come to the school up to 24 hours ahead of the party to get your ID scanned in so a preprinted sticker can be made for you. If you wait until the day of the party & have never had a visitor sticker before, plan to arrive early and bring patience! There will be a line. Our front office only has 2 computers that can scan IDs and print visitor stickers. This process is required for the safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding!

Reminders from Your Teacher
Helpful Hints:
- As we work on oral speaking skills, you can help your child use correct PRONOUNS when speaking. For example: "She is my friend." not" Her is my friend." Correcting this now makes learning grammar in 1st and 2nd grade much easier!
Lost and Found
Language Arts
We are preparing report cards for the second grading period. Please continue to review letters and sounds as well as sight words daily. Students should be mastering these skills at this time to meet end of year reading expectations. As reading levels become more challenging, sight words help students to read more fluently.
This is a great time to provide writing opportunities at home with letters to Santa, making cards for family and friends, or journaling about fun activities!
Please remind them to practice writing conventions such as:
- spacing
- using lower case letters unless it is the beginning of a sentence or a name
- spelling purple sight words correctly (Students may use the word wall as a reference at school.)
- ending punctuation
Math
Joining and Separating
The emphasis is on modeling these two actions (without symbols at this time)
- Joining sets to get a larger set (addition)
- Separating a set into smaller sets (subtraction)
You can practice this with fun simple story problems. Students especially enjoy stories that are about themselves and their families/friends. This is another great car activity!
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will learn about soil as a natural resource.
In Social Studies, we will discuss and observe Family Traditions. Below is a copy of the directions and a copy of the PDF that you may use. Your teacher sent home a paper copy in your child's PAWS Folder with your child's presentation date.
We look forward to learning about your family traditions!
