Principal's Message
What a great week we had! A lot of celebrations for writing were happening and we can't stress how important it is to celebrate our students for their effort and practice! Please make sure to invite myself, Cindy, and members of the ILT to your celebrations. We will put them on our calendar and ensure someone from the ILT is there to give kids recognition!
On Friday I attended a Catalyst meeting with our Associate Superintendent Kristin Craft and our Community Superintendent Karen Liska. The topic of discussion was common assessments. We also discussed how we are using All in Learning to support common assessment practices across our campus. To achieve high levels of learning, we must ensure our students have access to a guaranteed and viable curriculum as well as you ascertaining their mastery to inform next steps. So, for this Wednesday's faculty meeting, our topic of discussion will be common assessments and learning how to use All in Learning (switching from Mastery Connect) to support it. Please plan to bring the following to faculty meeting:
- 1 Math Common Assessment highlighting priority standards students have been learning (by grade level).
- Your laptop
- Your brain ready to learn!
This last week our students took the MAP assessments. I know there are some make-up assessments needed and you will want to get them all done no later than Tuesday. We use our MAP baseline data to make individual student goals as well as learn how to use MAP Skills to support students throughout the year. This session will be very informative so for our collaborative Thursday meeting we will have it in the data room upstairs.
Finally, we end the week with Grandparents Day! On September 6th, we will open our doors to welcome our wildcat grandparents to our school during lunch. Please read more info on Grandparents Day below. Ms. Colvin has sent you a series of great activities to be had with your grandparents. Here is more information about Grandparents Day at SSE.
HR Update: We are about to have 5th grade bilingual teacher join our team! She is a former SBISD teacher from Edgewood that is eager to get back into teaching after a hiatus to raise her baby. We will soon be welcoming Ms. Claudia Moore to team SSE. When she signs her contract we will welcome her with open paws!
Now I'm off to enjoy my 3 day weekend! Heading to Wimberly, TX for a mini getaway! Hope you make the most of your time off! You deserve it!
With love, respect, and admiration,
Rachel Martinez
