Student Achievements

  • A big congratulations to Juliet Ermer who has secured a place at University of Oxford's UNIQ summer school. 4,451 students applied for 850 places.
  • Well done to the post 16 students, in particular Kim Sooriya for their outstanding work organising the Longleat Business Trip for the year 10 students. See above for photos.
  • Well done to Luke Newell, Matthew Walter, Hannah Williams, Toby Durnford, Michael McCormick and Jacob Davies for completing their EPQ this week.
  • Congratulations to Halima Jama for her unconditional offer from De Montfort in Leicester!

CLF Rugby

Congratulations to the CLF Rugby team - with Louis Morgan, Ben Thomas, Oli Lathrope, Jacob Watkins, Dave Inkster and Will Roberts from Post 16.

The team beat Marlwood 30-19, after being 5-19 down at half time, showing great grit, determination, character and growth mindset to produce one of their best performances of the season and win the Bristol Schools U18 Plate.

Congratulations to the Year 12 students (Asia Thomas Jennings, Magnus Wieslander, Ayub Aboukar, Najmo Hussein, Ellie Mead, Nawaal Hussein, Hibak Hersi, Oliver Kidger, Judi Abdi, Poppy Bignell, Maandeekha Ahmed and Sineenat Khamjaroen)

Who have been working with Envision - a company created to empower young people and create positive change.

They've been working hard since September and won £400 for their project. They will be taking part in a competition on the 1st of May and need your help!

Well done to Marlon, Bradley and Nishan from the boomsatsuma course who managed their own stand alongside many other companies and education institutions at Bristol Brunel Academy’s careers fair on Wednesday.

Stand for Election!

We need two democratically elected student representatives to sit on the academy council for 2015-16. You will represent the voice of the entire Post 16 across 5 sites.

As a councillor you will be involved in:

  • Attend termly meetings to discuss Post 16 future
  • Create policies and practices
  • Be the important link to the student voice across the Federation
  • Represent the students and champion their case
  • Get invaluable experience worthy of Uni Applications and CVs!

In the run up to the election, we will support you in preparing a manifesto and election video for polling on the 10th of June.

ID Cards now in all sites!!

Students who have been assigned photo ID cards must wear these at all times.

Staff from other sites may stop you if you are found not to be wearing ID.

It's time to start looking for your work experience places!! Placement is at the end of Term 6 so your time is fast approaching! For hints and tips click here

JCA Prom - Deadline end of May

Year 13 prom open to JCA home students and those who have lessons at JCA. Organised by Billie Watkins in year 13. Price is £10 and includes free photo booth with unlimited prints all night! If you would like to attend, please see Kate at JCA

KOA Prom

Year 13 Prom organised by KOA students - this is taking place at The Grand Hotel on Friday 19th June. The cost is £22 to include a buffet and as much dancing as you can handle! If you would like to attend please see Michelle at KOA, money to be paid by 30th April.

Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers

Be a Library Volunteer!

South Glostershire libraries are looking for volunteers to help with their summer reading programmes this year.

This would be a great opportunity for you to put on your CV and university exams, and would be a great way to spend your summer holidays trying out new things and helping out your local area!

Young Heritage Apprenticeships

  • You must be 16-18 and not in education or employment at the time of the programme
  • It is open to 12 participants each year over 3 years.
  • You will participate in a 3 week summer school at Dumfries House Estate in Scotland, starting 27th July where you will take workshops in the 5 craft skills (stonemasonry, roofing, land crafts, carpentry and plastering), pick a skill you are most suited to and then work with mentors to get a suitable work placement near to you.
  • You will participate in a Live Build at Dumfries House alongside professionals from the architecture and design industries.
  • You will undertake a number of placements with providers local to your area over the course of 10 months.
  • You will take part in A short course in business skills and a short course leading to Level 3 award in Understanding Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Pre-1919 Buildings
  • Participants will be working towards achieving a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance, Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment (Construction)
  • The course is free and all participants will receive a monthly bursary of £765

Apply for Bursaries! Maths, Physics and Engineering

Find out if you are applicable for a R W Barnes Bursary Fund of up to £2,500 per year. This is available for undergraduates for up to 4 years of study. You must have a home address of within 40 miles of Frome to be eligable to apply, and you need to be doing a Maths, Physics or Engineering subject.
