Matters of the Library Media Center

DHS Teacher Edition: January 2016

Welcome Back!

Good morning, friends! I hope you all had a marvelous break, and came back this past Monday feeling rested and rejuvenated. I also hope that this rejuvenation hasn't already worn off, four days into the second semester! Ha! I look forward to seeing you all in the library this month, and, as always, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything! Have a super semester!

Library Information

I hate to be a grumpy grouch on our first week back, but...... Because of the massive amount of students who came in before school 1st Semester to socialize in the library, causing a disruption for those students who actually came in to read, study, or work on homework, I have made a few changes to Zero Hour. Students will now be required to sign in when they arrive, and sign out when they leave, with a notation as to their purpose for visiting the library that morning. Although I do love to see a full house of students in the library in the mornings, I want to be sure I am providing students with an environment that is conducive to learning. Additionally, I will have the east library door closest to the computer lab locked until the bell rings to go to 1st Hour. This will help with the traffic in and out of the library during that hour.

If you need to reserve a computer lab, please remember to let me know ASAP. Although I do not currently have many reservations for this month, the labs will begin to fill very quickly in the coming weeks. The second semester is a busy one, especially once EOC testing begins, so be sure to sign up for lab time before it's all booked. Please also make sure you let me know ASAP if you find that you will NOT be using a lab that you have reserved. You can always visit the link below to see what lab times are available for this month. (NOTE: Notice the tabs on the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is a tab for each week in January.)

DHS Library Information

The DHS library is open from 7:30-8:15 AM, and again after school from 3:10-4:00 PM. During this time, students are welcome to work on homework, read library books, study for tests, etc. The library is open during this time to provide students with a quiet atmosphere in which they may relax and feed their minds. Students should not use the library as a place to congregate and visit during this time.
