Our FINAL Fun(d) Run Numbers are IN!

We wanted to take a minute to thank you for your incredible support of the 2018 Sunset Ranch Coyote Fund Run! We had our most successful fundraiser ever, raising a total of $42,131! We appreciate your donations and also your event day support. It was wonderful to see so many families out at the event to cheer on their students and to help count laps. We were so fortunate to have many donations from extended family and friends. Please be sure to thank everyone that supported this event.

We will be able to do many incredible things at Sunset Ranch because of your support.

Thank you,

Did you know? October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

That means that this a chance to spread awareness. During the month of October, our inclusive school would like to bring awareness to the abilities and accomplishments of people with Down Syndrome.

The video below, JUST LIKE YOU – DOWN SYNDROME - explores the life, hopes, challenges and dreams of three teenagers living with Down syndrome. Elyssa, Rachel and Sam share personal stories to help viewers better understand their condition and why they wish to be treated just like you.

Kids are naturally curious and the special needs of peers with Down syndrome can raise a lot of questions. When questions are left unanswered it can lead to fear of the unknown, which may cause peers to lash out, ostracize or judge their classmates with Down syndrome.

The film’s primary goal is to open hearts and change perspectives because, “when you have the knowledge, you understand, and when you understand, you can accept that kids with Down syndrome just want to be treated like any other kid, just like you.”

Just like You, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which makes films to answer kids’ questions about unique circumstances. This film was made in collaboration with the Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City with the hopes it will be utilized as a tool by parents and educators to open the door to inclusion, acceptance and friendships. Sunset Ranch hopes for those same three things: inclusion, acceptance and friendships.

You won't regret the 13 minutes and 37 seconds you spend watching the video below.

Each week, flyers that would have taken money & supplies to print and time to count out & distribute are placed on the VB on the school website. This is where many of our community partners advertise after school clubs, sports, child care and more.
