A Message From Principal Robertson
Hello Barnsley families,
Happy Fall!! It is hard to believe that we are already in the month of October. The first month of school always go by so quickly. Thank you to all of our families who attended our Back to School Night events this past month. We appreciated your feedback and will be using your voices to plan and implement future events.
Progress reports will be available in Synergy for Marking Period 1. Progress reports are intended to provide a mid-marking period report of your child’s progress in a class. They are generated from the graded assignments in each course. In some instances, a class has not met frequently enough in the first few weeks of a marking period to generate graded assignments. In these cases there will be no progress report grade. By the end of the marking period, however, all courses will have grades on your child’s report card. If you have any questions/concerns regarding your child’s academic progress, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
This month we are excited to share that breakfast for ALL students will be free beginning Monday, October 2nd. On Tuesday, October 3rd, our staff will be trained on the new communication app REMIND. We are excited to share more information and next steps after we complete the required training. We are hopeful that this new communication system will be more interactive and be able to provide timely information to all of our families.
Our counselor, Mrs. Heatwole, will be hosting a virtual meeting this Wednesday October 4th. She will be sharing information about middle school options to our rising 6th grade families. The meeting link and more information will be sent via Synergy this week. Be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Heatwole!
We will be celebrating MCPS Safety Week with some fun wellness activities. We do not celebrate Halloween at Barnsley, but we are looking forward to a fall spirit week later this month. Please save the date for October 30th as this will be our fall individual pictures date. We will end the month with the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week which will include some fun wellness activities.
More information will be shared in our weekly updates.
We are looking forward to an eventful October here at Barnsley!
Sincerely,
Ms. Robertson
Student Voice Data
Last spring we asked our students- What do you love about Lucy V. Barnsley? A snapshot of their answers is in the word cloud to the right. We wanted to highight all of the things students love about Barnsley and to do this our partners at KAH helped make us wonderful new street signs around the building for each of our hallways. Please see below for some examples of our new hallway names and the student voice data that supported why these words were chosen. We hope as students walk through the building these serve as reminders of the things they love about being at Barnsley.
