Last Friday, the Kids Saving Critters club learned all about bees from Gordon and Pauline Tetlow. A hive had established in one of the owl boxes we installed last year, and Ms. Mikels wanted to make sure that the bees found a good new home. So the Tetlow's offered not only to remove it but also to teach the students about bees. The club learned about bee life cycle, habitat, behavior, species differences, how they help us (honey and pollination), and how we can help them. Let's plant more flowers!

Remember to bring in your unwanted or leftover Halloween candy for our ANNUAL HALLOWEEN CANDY BUY BACK! Last year we raised nearly $250! Let’s beat that this year! For every pound we have in candy, Westwood Elementary earns $1 from I-Ortho San Diego (formerly Moser Orthodontics)! All of the donated candy will be shared with our military troops around the world!

Bring your candy into our school office and drop it in our black BOO BARREL from OCT 31st – Nov. 8th

Westwood RoadRUNNERS! The 32nd Annual Invitational Cross Country Meet will take place Friday, November 8th at Mt Carmel High School. This event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Diego North and Westwood Roadrunners have been representing for the past 6 years! If you have a runner (3rd grade – 5th grade), who wants to join the WWES team, please email me at slbiddle06@gmail.com with your child's first & last name and grade.

I'll register the team and provide name tags. All you need to do is bring your child to the Mt Carmel High School Stadium by 2:45 for warm up. Look for a red pop up with our school banner and kids in Westwood Elementary shirts. These shirts can be a Westwood Character Counts (any color) or any other WWES tee. This helps us recognize our Roadrunners to cheer them on! Not to worry if you don’t have a Westwood Elementary tee. Kids can wear any t-shirt.

Please bring a water bottle for your kid and come prepared to cheer on all our kiddos.

The race is 1 mile and on the Mt. Carmel HS campus. Spectators can see most of the race at the Mt. Carmel Stadium. There will be no practices; as long as your kid is running regularly at Running Club or does rec sports, he or she will be able to run this race. The race schedule is as follows:

3rd grade boys 3:00pm, 3rd grade girls 3:15pm

4th grade boys 3:30pm, 4th grade girls 3:45pm

5th grade boys 4:00pm, 5th grade girls 4:15pm

Let's go Roadrunners!
